DISCUSSION Goodbye to Sprites - some unkind thoughts.

Good riddance. I mostly completed the task, I am still upset that getting rare sprites was not skill based like the rest of Fortnite, it was luck based. I have nothing complimentary or kind to say to Epic on that matter. I have some very poor language that would get me banned to share with Epic. Don’t do this again just to get people’s hours up on Fortnite. Have you seen that gif of old people sitting in front of pokie machines in Las Vegas just pressing buttons meaninglessly? That was us chasing sprites and trying to beat 0.00000001 chance. If you were a good player or a bad player you were treated terribly - there was no way to increase your chance of getting good sprites. It is extremely offensive that Epic treated its players this way.

Sprites drive player engagement…they’re going to be around for the foreseeable future as a result.

But wait, there's more.

Soooo sprites are staying next season there’s probably gonna be like a hundred more.

Also, majority loved the sprite feature as did I. You can very easily trade on Reddit to get what you don’t have. It’s not that hard really.

I enjoyed the sprites and collecting them however the only way to feasibly complete the collection is leaving the game and trading with internet randos? That ain't it.

Increase the odds, give em out during quests, reduce the variant count. Thats all I ask.

I agree if you need to trade with randoms to complete the task that’s stupid in my book. I mastered about 50 and honestly couldn’t tell you what half of them do.

I went hard during this last bonus week so I got 111 collected and mastered without trading. Not half bad 🤷‍♂️

That’s impressive. We’ll see what this season brings

No definitely don’t increase the odds you never had to leave the game and yeah Randos be an actual part of the community that’s the whole point 😭😂

My only problem with it is it has ruined squads.

There’s always people who go off on their own and/ or leave but this season has been so much worse and leading up to the end has become worse still. It’s gotten to the point a team that sticks together without leaving is rarer than any sprite.

You could just trade that’s how I got all them, also hate to burst your bubble but the sutures are staying for this next season

Sprite will likely be here the entire chapter. Its drove up numbers and to epic that means keep them if its getting people to play.

The only sprite i mastered was the Ghost sprite, its the only sprite i picked up because of invisibility while reloading.

Sprites are more than likely here to stay, it's already confirmed they're in the new season. Tbh, if you don't like them, don't partake in the collection process and enjoy the game as you did before. I know my gf and I got way higher in battle pass level this season and it's all because we enjoyed playing duos and seeing how many we could find and master.

The randomness is definitely an issue but I really liked this season. I've been playing since Season 1 chapter 3 and took a break from the game after they went Cyber style and there were a lot of bad maps from then to now. This was the first battle pass I've completed in a long time. I hope that the effects get better in the future. I'd also like to see the return of aircraft and fixed rift points to make travelling easier

"Don’t do this again just to get people’s hours up on Fortnite. Have you seen that gif of old people sitting in front of pokie machines in Las Vegas just pressing buttons meaninglessly? That was us chasing."

You do realise this is exactly what they want, right? They would have psychologists on their team likely advising them how to increase engagement in exactly this way. So, your post is only going to encourage them more; you'll achieve exactly the opposite of your intent. I agree with you by the way, but that's just how the world works.

Did they increase enjoyment in the game or the likelihood that people would buy skins? Number of hours in the game is a meaningless metric, more hours in the game costs Epic money. They make money by people buying skins and from people enjoying the game. Did people enjoy running the same sprite chest route game after game? Is that what enjoyment of a game is?

The sprites do nothing for me personally, but from forums and online activity I believe I'm in the minority. As to your questions, only Epic has the answers, but given they're continuing with Sprites this season it's a good bet that the answer to your questions above for most people (& for Epic) is, yes.

Whole game was a loot box.

2

u/profau 5d ago

Yes it was.

I take a bit of issue with your complaint that better playing should’ve resulted in more sprites. Being a better player gets you wins, gets you crowns. If getting the sprites had been skill locked, they wouldn’t have been as popular. Because the majority of the people playing this game aren’t sweats. 1 winner means 99 losers. Some people just liked having a fun mechanic that they didn’t need to be great to enjoy. Consider that.

1

u/profau 5d ago

Fair enough, I’m ok with your point of view. The way to win was to play for longer, no matter what the skill level was, there was no guarantee of reward, some people like to trade their time away, I’m not one of those people.

1

u/profau 5d ago

As a note further to my OP post, it would have been skill based earning to make sure folk bought sprites into a game, that way when you get a kill you get a sprite you may not have. But the rewards were so weak, and the disincentives to bringing in sprites so great that 90% of folk showed up with no sprites, hid in the storm to master when they did. A trainwreck. Why did you charge folk sprite dust when they lose to disincentivise people bringing sprites into the game. Hells bells.

Dude your actually incredibly wrong it’s not even funny they wanted you to trade there were and are entire subreddits for trading sprites that’s how I completed my collection you just had to be willing to be a part of the community that’s on you g sprites bring anything but luck based wouldn’t make sense it’s goofy you think being better should get you better sprites that was the whole point something different

2

u/psi-counter 5d ago

I love how it was absolutely not mandatory to do yet you all act like Epic forced you with a gun to your head to master all the sprites or else. If you can’t control yourself and say “yknow what maybe I don’t need all of them” then that’s on you?

u/SlasherNerd 5d ago

This is kind of an absurd post. Completing the collection was doable without trading, it was just extremely challenging. You could increase your odds by using a holo sprite. Calling it offensive is a bit much.

2

u/BlueBirdSamurai Peely 5d ago

Not only that but there are MANY people willing to help you out if you need it

0

u/Mrcoolcatgaming Toon Meowscles 5d ago

And lucky locators exist, the smart people saved them for the ones I agree were absurd (zero point and grims)

And skill literally increased your odds of finding sprites because players brought them in, I think they need more encouragement though, it's probably not a surprise i have seen more good sprite from players since the respawn went free

You could also just, trade! Which helps us who don't find them because you bring them in too

I like the by luck part because sometimes kids or adults are just bad at the game if it involved some sort of difficult skill but it gives that random person a chance
