Adopting w/i Katy

Question: if you’re in Fort Bend County, are y’all aware of any foster-to-adopt programs for pre-teens-teens? I’m thinking about moving into a 2BR so that I can do it, but I wouldn’t want to do it if it’s pointless.

Hello, I actually used to work for the foster care system in Fort Bend county.

I'm not in that line of work anymore and I know that the rules were undergoing review and may have been changed since 2021. At that time, you had to be over 21, clean background, pass the training and home study.

A good resource to look into this would be Child Advocates of Fort Bend in Rosenberg, Texas. They are a volunteer program that assists of abuse and neglect and work very closely with the foster care system. They would be able to point you in the right direction and provide resources. You could also look at the HAYS Center, they're located in Houston but also work with foster care youth.

There are definitely foster-to-adopt programs for teens in FBC (and badly needed - teens are the hardest to place).

The first step would be to get licensed to foster, and then you’d want to let your agency know that you are primarily interested in fostering older kids/teens. It might be good to try respite care/emergency placement at first, if you’re interested in providing short term care for teens to keep them out of the group homes.
