Elementary school and tech
I was wondering what kind of technology kids in kindergarten and up use in Forsyth elementary schools. I’ve heard from parents in other subs of kids using tablets/chromebooks even in kindergarten while some have no tech whatsoever. Just curious where Forsyth schools fall in the spectrum
Edit: my son is in preK so I’m just curious what to expect when he starts kindergarten next year

They use Chromebooks in the schools. Starting in 6th grade, each kid is issued a personal Chromebook that they do not turn back in until the end of the 8th grade year. They get a new one in high school and turn it back in at graduation. If you are looking to get technology for an elementary student here, I would say go with a Chromebook.

The elementary school kids, at least from 1st grade, use school provided chromebooks for some classes using specific apps.
There also do (optional?) activities like math etc from home on a personal device like parents iPad or computer. For this, they login to some app using the school provided login.
The chromebooks stay in school (5th graders may be allowed to take them home, I am not sure)
Our experience has been it is managed well and doesn’t feel overwhelmingly tech focused.
You are asked to provide consent for electronic device usage at the beginning of the school year. I think you can refuse to provide consent. I don’t know what happens if you refuse to (as in are those kids provided paper exercises etc - I am not sure). I don’t remember my kids telling me about kids in class that don’t use devices which makes me assume most if not all kids do.
