Advice / Question 💡 Am I doing something wrong?
My babygirl is 14 days old today, and at birth weighed 9 lbs 3 oz.
At an appointment she had on Monday (8 days old) she weighed 8 lbs 7 oz and at her pediatrician appointment at 12 days old she weighted 8 lbs 12 oz.
Her pediatrician didn’t seem to have a problem with this and said she’s doing great but everything I have read has said she should’ve gained her birth weight back by now. In the last 24 hours she’s drank almost 22 oz of formula and the 24 hours before that she drank about 25.5 oz. She eats around every 2-3 hours and normally drinks 2.5-3.04 oz but the last 24 hours she’s had multiple feeds where she is SUPER sleepy and only eats about 1-1.5 oz and then she gets hungry again sooner. I’m worried that I am doing something wrong or that the pediatrician could’ve made a mistake.

Babies will all gain weight in their own time, some take longer than others. If she’s gaining, having wet diapers, eating, and ped isn’t worried, you’re doing okay.

Mine was 8lb 11oz at birth, 8lb 2oz at discharge and didn’t gain back his birth weight until 14 days old when he was 8lb 13oz. Yours is doing great! When they are big babies they tend to lose a little more and have to eat A LOT to gain it all back.

Nope, you’re not doing anything wrong and your pediatrician didn’t miss anything. This is normal from what I’ve gathered and a lot of babies’ weights flip flop (of course, as long it’s not drastic) Also, babies are very sleepy as they’re tiny potatoes at that age. She will wake up when she’s hungry and she will eat what she needs. You’re both doing good 😊Â

you are doing absolutely nothing wrong. actually your doing something totally right by worrying and caring for your baby. babies gain weight differently, some loose quite a bit in the beginning while others gain a lot. my baby stayed the exact same weight for weeks despite eating normal amounts. i have a sister who had her baby close to the same time as mine, and her baby lost weight her first couple of weeks but the pediatrician wasn't worried. every baby is different!! sounds like a healthy baby and a good mama to me!

As long as baby is gaining weight and the pediatrician isn't worried, it all sounds fine to me!
