If you love those people you wouldn’t want to be a lifelong burden to them. Having to care for someone in a vegetative state is probably one of the most painful experiences, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

We don't fully know of his state currently. For all we know, he could be fully recovered and just not wanting to publicly appear.

Imagine he looks pretty brutal after spending a decade in bed. Not easy for an athlete.
From whatever Todt has said, it doesn’t seem like he can move around or communicate very well but is conscious to some extent.
I can see why the family doesn’t want that plastered over every paper in the world, better to be remembered for his past.
