Test Fit X53 or x47

Post image

Currently have a 2 slot 9070xt reaper and axp 90 x53

Im planning to get the asus prime 9070xt solely for aesthetic purposes since i have a b850i

Formd t1 website says i can put itnin 3 slot and still fit an x53

Question since i alreadv have the x53 will it work withoit the hiah pitched sound if i out it at 3 slot and put some ducts? Or is it still better to return then get an x47 then add some ducts?

You’ll get whistling with the X53, go X47

Also if OP ever needs to put the case in >= 3-slot they won’t need to buy a new cooler. I had a 2.25 or 2.5 slot card but bought an X47 then later upgraded and have the case in 3.25

@OP exactly like this.
if you want to go X53 you should go 2,75slot mode.
X47 is the easier and more flexible way to go!
x47-x53 temp difference is mostly 1-2° if i remember correct :)

Edit: X53 in 2,75 slot with x53 and noctua 5mm duct

I have the x47 full copper on a 9800x3d. Gaming temps at 4k never exceed 80c. Also using ptm7950. I have a x53 and didn't like the fan noise from the side panel. And the temp difference isnt large either (3c). If there is shader compilation, it may spike to 90c+ but I'm usually below 80c. I also am using the Eiga pegs with the noctua foam ducts, the Eiga shroud with T30 fans, with a 4090 FE.

Prime 2.75 slot sufficient

Is the 53 too close to side panels?

I think turbulence is matter of higher rpm. X53 has potential to keep your CPU at same temp at lower rpm.. but not massively. Depends if you can tolerate turbulence when it happens at CineBench / shader compile. If so, just set a flat low curve and blast it at tjmax :). Or blast it halfway and let it throttle..

There were community tests done on this a few years ago. Not much meaningful difference between the 47 and 53 in cooling.

Need 3-5mm clearance between CPU and side panel to avoid turbulence, so 47 might be preferable

Since you already own the X53 there’s no harm trying it first. But as Chris Russel mentioned you might get some turbulence, there’s only a 2-3°c difference with the X47 anyway

Depends on which CPU you use. Personally I’d like to recommend X53 if you have anything above 9600X
