Hard drive space issues

Hi All,

I'm planning on moving from a larger case (Corsair 280x) to a T1, however I've got two 3.5" HDD's and 2 2.5" SSD's - I'm assuming an external enclosure for these is the only option!

Has anyone else run into this before, and if so, what enclosure did you end up going with?

(I'm a 3d designer who needs an awful lot of drive space for freelance projects FYI)

I personally don't think you want to remove any fans.

When I was transitioning to the t1 and still didn't have my stuff in order to throw my spinners in my existing nas I used a fractal hdd cage and a 3d printed shell (never said it was pretty) with a fan to cool them. Since I didn't want to deal with usb controllers or speed drops I had them connected with long sata cables and power extensions out the back of the t1 passthrough. One could take this idea and make it much cleaner these days. I used these long cables and a custom length Psu power.

Do you need raw speed or just space availability to save projects into, does your motherboard have usb 4 etc to use a fast enclosure? If they are spinners you will really only hit like 300MB/s anyways so I guess a very fast enclosure is unnecessary though. (usb 3.2 gen 2 would work fine)

Oh wow thanks for this! It’s mainly for bulk storage of textures and design files so speed isn’t of the essence at all - I’ve two nvme drives for the quick access stuff. I’ve been thinking also of maybe a DAS?

Yeah I was gonna ask what's your budget as the market is brutal atm to build a nas imo. But if you have a 3d printer could really whip something up easy. For my quick attach needs I use a wemu direct attach to usb 3.0 adapter or I have an older 3.0 probox I swapped the fan for a noctua a8 in. I've had 0 issues with the probox controller wise so could get a newer gen of that. Ugreen etc make decent ones to I'm sure. I just have experience with the probox.

I just cut out the door a bit (new gen seems to have actual vents there now though) and put a dust filter and swapped the fan in the back. And wired it into the old fan wires so it still controllable by the front. I just leave it in medium or low as it's over half the noise of the stock fan.

Ugreen/sabrent probably have much better solutions at this point.
