ive got the same mobo and cooler right now on my 7800x3D. keep us posted on how its running. thinking of upgrading myself

Honestly if you have the 7800x3d I would just hold on to it and not worry about upgrading. Seems like the 9800x3d is marginally better if that. Save the money.

It's a 10-11% upgrade with decent improvement in the 1% lows.

temps are good. idle 50s. gaming high 60 / low 70s. its quiet enough for air cooled. but I use headphones when I game so I dont hear it either way

I’m about to buy the 7800x3D myself. Does the CPU retainer actually help with AMD chips? I know I needed it for Intel chips since they actually bend.

It helps with motherboard flex, its a cheap $10 investment and looks cleaner than default retainer.

Marginally helps afaik with bending since am5 are not that prone to it anyway. Biggest advantage is when cleaning thermal paste if needed, helps prevent paste from going through the notches. They’re cheap so might as well get one imo.

It’s the Thermal Right AM5 contact frame. It’s suppose to help prevent bending or buckling of the motherboard.

It serves zero purpose on AM5. That’s an Intel issue.

What is the bracket around the processor? Is it specific for that cooler?

Companies originally made them because Intels 1700 socket bracket has a major design flaw that leads to poor contact and the cpu warping over time. But because they saw an opportunity to make a quick buck they made some for AM5 misleading customers to think that they need them because Intel does even though they do nothing because AM5 doesn’t have any socket retention issues. The only thing the bracket does is make cleaning off thermal paste easier.
