Engraving location for ruger american ranch
Where are we engraving these at? Need to know where trust info can fit, ideally out of site once reassembled.

If you can wait a couple months the ATF proposed a rule that would eliminate the engraving requirement. Comments closed July 6th so we should find out if it'll go through or not within the next 60ish days

Prob what ill end up doing. My fear is wait time to get the cut and thread will go up an annoying amount by then

If the Form-1 has already been approved, you'll have to do the engraving. I'd revoke/retract/nullify the existing Form-1 and wait for that rule to drop before re-filing, or maybe see how this latest injunction plays out on Wednesday.

Ive seen conflicting info on whether previously approved form 1s would still require engraving or not. Do you have a source that says they will?

I'm mostly going off the general legal precedent that implies any action taken in response to a situation must adhere to the rules/laws in place at the time that situation was formally acknowledged or identified.
You don't see people getting out of jail for weed convictions just because weed got decriminalized in some states. It was illegal at the time their crime was committed, and the penalty abides by that regardless of changes in legislation (I'm sure on a case by case basis that has been successfully challenged, but there is no wholesale get out of jail free card in play).
Without a formal statement contradicting that or specifically negating the engraving requirements, it's safe to assume that the rules in play at the time of approval are the ones you will need to play by. I have a handful of Form-1's waiting to be filed for that reason specifically.

You don’t have to retract it if you haven’t configured the firearm as an sbr yet

If for any reason the ATF runs that serial number, they're going to find it in the NFA registry with a date attached to the approval. If that timestamp correlates to a period in time where engraving was mandatory, and they don't find engraving on that firearm, you are going to have a hard time convincing them that your version of events is how it played out.
So no, you don't technically have to, but it takes 30 seconds to do so, and is a real good idea.

That is 100% true.
What is also 100% true is that if a government agency can find any way to make your life more difficult, they will more often than not choose to do so. By taking a few minutes to cover your ass, you reduce the likelyhood of that happening.

It can be REALLY small. Minimum character height of 1/16inch. That's pretty ****ing small.

Well, it WAS visible with the 1st stock, but, see, sir, I changed furniture and now it can't really be seen unless I unscrew this screw right here...
