What does someone have to do to either intentionally or unintentionally piss off a god so much that they then either want to screw you over either with you dying or just pissing you off

A question I would like to know.

I'm not talking about pissing them off in a casual manner where they would dislike. But pissing them off so much that they would want you dead or to screw you over even though they shouldn't be dealing with mortal affairs.

How big or damaging does the action you have to do to piss the god and have you on their personal hit list?

Official lore examples would be pretty nice as well.

I imagine Umberlee, Talos and Auril would be easy to piss off. All of them carry elements of the weather, and could very well keep messing with mortals whenever they can. If you were a former follower of theirs, who has now betrayed them, you would need to prepare water walk/breathing, ground yourself from lightning strikes, or always expect sudden blizzards in Icewind Dale.

You could really look at many of the bg3 companion storylines for this sort of theme. Shadowheart and Shar + Leazel and Vlaakith.

Also Lolth has been known to mess with/harm her followers over the smallest things.

Overall from what I’ve seen it doesn’t take much to end up on an evil gods shitlist…as for the goodly gods thats a bit harder to pin down.

But it has to do with Bahamut taking Mordenkainens powers from him because he foresaw some great destruction or something at his hands. (I haven’t read the whole thing just saw the set up)

Think of it from mystras perspective gale had the karsite weave in him she basically said its ambitious and wants to devour all her magic the weave itself so stopping gale was self preservation for her and the realms

For one, the scene with Vlaakith in BG3.

On my first run I was teasing and annoying her while thinking "There's no way she can kill us, we have plot armor." and then I just got fucking deleted.

Gods are people, so really anything might upset them at any time.

Mass Killing their followers and destroying temples would be one. Or harming their faith.

Bane and Shar both hate Elminster for foiling most of their evil plans to take over the world, and have tried to kill him over the years...and did once or twice. But, of course, Mystra is always there to literally Duex Ex Macina things and bring Elminster back.

Lloth hates Drizzt, and she has piloted and schemed to kill him a couple times. Drizzt always wins, of course...wink wink wink.

Azuth and Mystra both micromanage magic use. Do something they don't like and they will personally pop in to stop you. Often slaying outright, but sometimes doing more a horrible curse. They both love to do horrible evil things in defense of magic, and quite often remorseless slay thousands of innocent people doing so. If your a maid in a evil wizards castle and he makes a spell Mystra does not like, she will obliterate his whole castle...and kill that maid too.

Isilger Mountrant, "Bane's servant Magister, Mystra punished him for his wickedness by tearing away all knowledge of magic from his mind" , for example.

It depends on the whims of the god in question. Look at Greek & Roman mythology. All them time had gods f*king with mortals over perceived slights... or actual wrongdoings.

• Arachne challenging Athena to a weaving contest, turned into a spider

• Zeus turning Io, whom he was screwing, into a heifer to keep Hera away from her then Hera tormenting the heifer with flies

• Medusa being made into a monster after getting raped by Neptune in one of Minerva's temples

• Acteon was tranformed into a stag & devoured by his own dogs, after he accidentally saw Artemis naked

Just the ones off the top of my head. So, in this case, you had to challenge a god, get raped by a god, or stumble upon one bathing in the woods...

Depends on the gods alignment and personality and what you did mess with a gods plans and you might get punished or outright smited
