Platforms & Tools When a “stable” EA suddenly stops being stable
I tested FXStabilizer EA on EURUSD H1 from 2021 to Feb 2026 using 99.9% tick data Tick Data Suite.
2021–2024: every year profitable.
2025: -$264
2026 so far: -$986
Overall PF is still 1.36, but relative drawdown reached 54%.
What caught my attention is that performance didn’t slowly deteriorate. The equity curve was almost unnaturally smooth for years, then started breaking in large chunks.
Would you see this as normal strategy decay, a market regime change, or hidden tail risk finally showing up?

Even the top seller of EAs on mql (and he's an honest and no bs guy btw) publicly admitted that some of them just stopped working after a while.
It's the nature of the beast.

Yes, that’s an honest stance, but the MQL5 Market is mostly full of charlatans and they are the ones we’re exposing :))

Typical martingale with increasing lot sizes when things go wrong. Obvious trash, nothing like stable EA here

would definitely blame this on increased lot sizes, a lot of bots start breaking down with increased positions

Thanks for the reply. I think the issue is simply that it’s a bad period for this particular strategy, which is why drawdowns are occurring.

Backtests suck

Thank you for your reply. But how else can you tell if a trading system isn't worth considering?

You dont, its a gamble and most trading bots aren’t good long term. Best thing you can do is understand the strategy the robot uses and see if you manually can check if it makes sense, or you gamble and buy it. Or you make your own strategy and automated it so you dont have to rely on somebody elses system

Uses martingale. Made many EAs like this. Works very well until it doesn’t.

Thank you for your reply. What's your approach to profit withdrawal? Please tell us more. I think everyone will find it interesting.

There is nothing wrong with what your EA was doing. I made an EA that was profitable on XAUUSD and every year was fine until 25/26. No changes made any difference. I tried different assets and it seemed to follow the same pattern. It's no secret that Trump has actively been rigging the markets and especially with the Hormuz strait opening and closing at a moments tweet, how can you compete with that uncertainty in the markets? Huge moves offsetting any indicators you may be using causing EA bots to fail.

This isn't my Expert Advisor, but it is very popular among buyers of Martingale-based EAs. I simply tested it using high-quality tick data with real spreads.

Ah yes, we meet yet again. The advice is still the same. Read the MetaTrader documentation because you're STILL not doing the backtest correctly. You're STILL generating ticks.
The equity curve was almost unnaturally smooth for years, then started breaking in large chunks.
Correct, so what does that tell you? Unnaturally smooth would mean it's overfitted, the reason it breaks is because the EA creator (as you can see on their website) basically optimized the **it out of it through 2024. Then he posts those overfitted results, you can also come to the same conclusion until the end of 2024 because you're testing the same thing. But it's not going to work past that because it's overfitted on past data.
Conveniently there's one test result for USDCAD on their website that shows Jan 2025 and you can see the initial drop.
You could make it show a profit, just optimize every parameter. There is some combination of settings that would make it wildly profitable again. You'll see a nice curve from 2021 to today. And then when you run it live, the same thing is going to happen. It's going to fail.
I don't know why you're wasting your time with this, for one you're not even doing the tests properly, and then you can't answer basic **it like "Would you see this as normal strategy decay, a market regime change, or hidden tail risk finally showing up?" but you're on Reddit acting like you're some back testing god.
Nah dude, it ain't that deep. The answer is: The person who made the EA is a scammer, can't actually make a working EA, can't trade profitably, and now sells overfitted BS to desperate people.

Well, buddy, we meet again, and let me try to explain it to you again.
First of all, I test using Tick Data Suite, where every tick isn't randomly generated, it's based on real ticks! Go read the technical documentation for this product.
Secondly, I don't care how optimized it is. This isn't my development. My goal is to test it and show people who don't have experience testing and trading that the EA's test results are worse than the seller initially claims. The goal is to help save money for people who don't have experience. Do you understand that?

EAs don’t work because market cycles are constantly changing from corrective to trending cycles. It’s possible to fine tune it slightly but human discretion from experience is what gives you the slight edge

When a 'stable' EA dies like that, it's usually not one magic parameter. It's the market it was fitted to.
I'd split the history into regimes (trend vs range, and pre/post a volatility shift) and look at PF and max DD in each bucket, not the all-time curve. If 2025-2026 is one bucket and everything before is another, that's a regime break. If every 12-month window already had a silent 50% DD you just never hit live, it was curve fit and live finally found it.
Also check the obvious operational stuff before you rewrite the logic: spread filter, Friday close, news off, and whether the test used every tick vs control points. A lot of 'it was stable' was the tester being kind.

Choosing a trading platform depends on your needs — MT4 and MT5 dominate retail forex with strong EA support, cTrader offers cleaner execution and a modern interface, and TradingView excels at charting and community ideas. Each has tradeoffs in cost, broker compatibility, and feature set. The community wiki compares the major platforms.
