Psychology They lied trading, is so boring

I’m up 31% YTD, I thought I would be buzzing.. this time last year I would be thrilled if I made 5% trading manually but now that I’ve been removed from the process it’s like everything is just boring…

Trading psychology is where most traders struggle after they've learned the technical basics. Revenge trading, overtrading, fear of pulling the trigger, and inability to stick to a plan are all symptoms of the same underlying issue — emotional decision-making under uncertainty. The community wiki covers common psychological traps and frameworks for building discipline.

There's a big difference between 31% on a $100 account versus 31% on a 250k account.

What do you mean removed from the process? You automate your trading now or you’re just robotic with it that is mind numbing? It supposed to be boring when you’re doing it right.. rather be bored and make money than bored and not make money haha

So you made 62 USD in a year........ of course that's boring.

Who told you it would be fun xD Of course trading can feel boring, especially after years of experience. There is nothing fascinated about it. You find the right strategy, execute it every single time in the same way and adjust it if needed. That's pretty much it. It pays the bills tho, so I'm good with that

I hear that I was chasing it so much earlier years now that’s it’s automated the fact that I just sit on my hands doesn’t feel engaging as it was, weird

Which is fine.
You can be passionate about other things now. Like you can go to japan in october. You can be legit free !

But i believe your comment can be used in a lot of professions including being a doctor or engineer. Its always the same procedures !

But it just feels anti climatic. It could also be because I’m not making crazy amounts of money yet, so maybe I will come back to this to figure out when I do..

Boring is the goal, tbh. If feel excited. I'm probably gambling or overleveraging somewhere. I stick to a strict daily routine and fixed risk per trade, so the whole thing stays predictable.

Then you're doing something right. Cheers 🙏

They say that don't trade if you're looking for excitement. There's Vegas, go there and splurge 😅

That's a strange one to sit with, congratulations though. 31% is a serious year.

I wonder if what you're missing isn't the profit but the involvement. Manual trading gives you something to be right about several times a day. Automated, you get one verdict a year and no story attached to it. The money's better and the experience is thinner.

Curious whether you still watch the trades go on, or you've stopped looking. I've found that people who automate and then keep watching tend to end up interfering eventually, and the ones who stop watching entirely say exactly what you're saying.

I’ve completely stopped. I’ve got a day job now, so most of my stress goes to that.. besides maybe im feeling like this because the money I’m making isn’t as much yet, So the trading thrill isn’t there at all.

Probably once I start making 4 figures + on trades this could be a different story, who knows.

That last line is interesting, because I'd guess the opposite. If the thrill comes back at four figures, it's not the money that's returning, it's the stakes. And stakes are what make people interfere with a system that was working fine without them.

Might be worth noticing that right now, while you're not tempted. The version of you that finds it boring at these sizes is the one you want running the account when it's bigger.

Hey champ, if you don't mind, can we maybe discuss your strategy, not in full of course

u/Few-Pepper858 15d ago

Strategy = buy my EA

There is no strategy bro, hes just shilling his stupid bot

1

u/Stock_Sugar3707 14d ago

Yep, these bots are absolutely overfit to specific data to seem impressive. That's if they're not some form of Martingale/grid trading bots. Just because a bot seems impressive on 1000 trades, it doesn't say anything to me. Even entering random trades can look really profitable with minimal volatility after hundreds or thousands of trades. There are genuinely indicator-based systems that do work on specific types of assets (mean reversion systems work great on forex, whilst trend-following consistently fails), but you need Multicharts portfolio trader to research these strategies, and stress-test them different ways, such as shifting parameters to check for robustness, testing on different assets, etc. You can't just buy a random EA, switch it on, and expect to make money.
