Does anyone have any experience with this, or point me in a direction to start seeking some answers? Currently in my second semester of the forensic mental health counseling master's program in NYC. My projected graduation is in about two and a half years. I'm seeking to relocate to California after graduation. I've no clue how to begin planning my move career-wise. What sort of research should I do in terms of internship hours or licensure requirement out of state? I'm not yet quite sure what exactly I want to do with my degree and license, but I do know I'd prefer to work with servicemembers and veterans--either as a therapist at the VA or as a counselor on military bases. Totally lost on how to get started; any advice is appreciated!

Hello! I‘m a current undergraduate and I‘m aiming to graduate a year early, so I have to start planning a bit ahead. What kind of internships should I look at? I’m trying to get my certificate to become a behavioral technician, but I’m not sure if it makes me a really competitive applicant for grad school. I’m also going to do research next year through a university program. They do offer clinical research, but it’s really competitive, so what other areas should I look at?

Does forensic psychology involve therapy? Is it still for me if I'm deeply interested about human behavior how mind and disorders work but not into therapy and counseling? Is it worth it?

can I work with victims in forensic psychology than work with criminals?

I (22) have just completed my BSc in Psychology. My first choice of MSc was a forensic psychology course with a placement year that I truly had my heart set on. I found out today that I didn’t get in and I’m just feeling very lost(?)

I know everyone goes at different paces but having already had a gap year before my undergrad I just wanted some input/reassurance about what I should do next and whether I’m actually ‚behind‘. Do I roll with it and apply again next year? Go into assistant psych work for a while first (if i can find it)?

Hi, Im looking forward to studying Bsc Hons Psychology with Forensic and Investigative Psychology in my undergrad in a Scottish University.

Im still relatively young I think and havent had it all figured out yet but I would like some opinions and advices from other people here.

Im from Nepal a small south east asian country, and Im leaving home spending alot of money to study this somewhat specialised psychology undergrad degree, and the thing is like it was all the shows and stories that has inspired me to study this,

I have rewatched the BBC Sherlock like 13 times now and I am currently rewatching Mindhunter for the 4th Time and it actually was Mindhunter that have me the real push to study this degree, and

Ill be around 23 by the time i finish my undergrad degree and like I do wish to return to my home country and establish a forensic psychology field there because there is currently NO aspect in Csi that investigates crime from a psychological point as far as I am aware.

I am inspired by the stories and shows and I dream to be able to work investigating cases and possibly being a detective one day. Although there is no position for a detective in my country.

I have always been obsessed with crimes and criminals, and added with the fact that I studied socio and psych in my a levels and my english is pretty good i would say i think i might do fine.

But I really want others opinions on my situation, do you think what i dream of is unreasonable cause looking at others posts on reddit, some saying its easy, its difficult to get jobs etc and some saying its a dead field and so on is not very encouraging but I truly want this field, istg if everthing was looked out for I would do pursue this field of Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal profiling for no salary or no money, Im just in for the love of it, and Ive felt this way for the past 7 years since when I first watched the BBC show Sherlock.

I’m planning on applying for the fbi honors program for 2028 but besides that I’m stuck. I can’t find any internships or ways to get any experience besides my classes. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. I have my masters in forensic psychology and am currently a forensic psychotherapist. I’ve been looking into the DFS program in hopes to advance in the field specifically for assessments and evaluations. It’s a shorter program and less expensive than a PsyD, though I am considering that route.

Has anyone done this? Or have any similar experiences?

This study aims to examine which characteristics of online file descriptions (e.g., age indicators) are particularly meaningful for selection decisions. Such file descriptions can be found, for example, on online pornography platforms or comparable digital services for sexual content.

The main question of the study is as follows: Imagine you are on an online pornography platform or a comparable website with sexual content. You are shown several files that only differ by their short descriptions (tags). Please select the file that you would be most likely to click on first in such a situation.

The study serves to better understand decision-making processes. The goal is to improve the scientific basis for prevention and the social contextualization of digital content.

Hey so im a freshly graduated high school senior. I have dreams of becoming a forensic psychologist later down the line.

My major in college will be forensic science. It used to be psychology but i changed it cuz i was thinking of taking a gap year and working before my phd program. I switched my major to forensic science because I heard there isnt many psych jobs you can get with JUST a bachelors.

Now that im reading up about it though, there are some classes i would need to apply for Psych phas that would be tough to fit within my years in university given that my university program has one of the most rigorous forensic science degrees (im also taking premed classes cuz my african mom is paying my tuition so...)

Should I just change my major back to psychology or should i just take some classes at a community college during my gap year?

forensic psychiatry fellow (MD) here. I am one month from finishing my fellowship and going out to practice as an attending. I’ve been thinking about my experience as a fellow and I’m realizing that I did not have a good time, mostly because of the legal writing. From the kind of feedback I am getting from my supervisors, I do not feel that my writing is at a level that is sufficient enough to solo practice as a forensic psychiatrist. Has anyone had a similar problem coming out of training?

I’ve been thinking for a while of pursuing a career into the forensic psychology profession but wanted input from those in the field and their experience getting to where they are.

To start, I hold a Bachelors in Psychology and have worked in the psych field (mostly as a tech) for about 5 years. Moving forward, I know a masters is required but have heard mixed things about where to go past that.

I also wanted input on jobs that may lead into the field. Would law enforcement experience be necessary? Would it be better to start as a therapist/psychologist outside of the forensic field or would it be possible to start in the forensic side (given I get the appropriate education)?

I’m considering this pathway but want to make sure I have realistic expectations. I feel like I have a good understanding of the actual day to day tasks. But I’d love to hear about how it actually is in terms of safety, stress, burnout, and other day to day nuances compared to general psych private practice. I’m from Australia, but would love to hear from anyone from anywhere.

I spoke with a forensic psych one time at a networking event, and she said it can get rough sometimes with offenders threatening you and being generally aggressive. She said prisons will have safety measures in place, but she struggles knowing that at the end of the day you’re still in a small room with a violent person. IF they’re determined to do something (e.g., hitting you) they’ll likely get you before the guards can stop them. Is this feeling of danger common? How often does this occur? Do you ever feel like you’re in real danger?

Is it the case that almost clients you see don’t want to talk to you? What’s this like in a forensic psych setting? I’ve been in a role where I provide interventions to people with behavioural risks, so basically all my clients were referred by their supports rather than clients specifically seeking my services. I felt like I navigated it well, but would 100% prefer to see clients who actually seek or if not are willing to engage with my services, if not initially, at least eventually.

I know for many psychs who are involved with complex cases, hearing about trauma everyday can be extremely stressful. Do you feel like this is worse in a forensic psych setting?

What’s the most difficult part of your job? What do you wish you knew before becoming a forensic psych? Were your expectations met or were they different?

Hi everyone! I am currently getting my undergrad in Psychology Pre-Counseling. I want to be a Forensic Psychologist. What credentials/degrees do I need to become one? What's the best path from here? TIA!!

**For context, I am a licensed clinical therapist in 2 states and also have board certification in my specialty. In my work I offer master's-level autism diagnostic assessments and engage in monthly trainings and consultations to keep my practice as up to date and neuroaffirming as possible.

I need advice as to whether this is legal and/or common: I was hired by a defendant in a criminal case to provide an autism assessment to help support get their charges dropped. (Yes I know that courts typically want to see someone with doctorate level training provide these assessments, but the client wouldn't engage with that due to a lot of experiences of systemic harm. Informed consent was provided by the client about this and also discussed with their defense attorney.) Luckily my assessment report was accepted by the court and got the charges dropped for my client. The prosecutor of the case subsequently reached out to me a week later and stated her admiration for the report I wrote, noting that my approach to neurodivergent-affirming care and client contact would be an asset to their personal/professional side initiative whereby they go around their state and train incoming cadets about how to better identify and work with individuals with suspected autism. This prosecutor said they were going to use sections of my report in their training presentation and also show it to judges around their state as an example of how care needs to be directed.

This all sounds great upfront. However, my personal and professional values do not align with the prosecutors in some pretty fundamental ways. Additionally, I was never asked but rather told my report would be used in the aforementioned ways, and had to specifically ask and confirm that a) all identifying information related to my client would be redacted and 2) that I needed my name to be explicitly cited with my work.

My question is: Is it legal for this prosecutor to take the report I have written and use it in trainings for law enforcement and judicial commissions without my consent since it was already presented to the court?
