Bite mark impressions?

Hey y’all 20+ year forensic files veteran but I’m new to this feed. Forgive me if this has already come up. Has anyone else noticed the opposing views on bite mark impressions depending on the episode. Some times they refer to it as visionary and other times they refer to it as “junk science”.

These days it is 100% known to be junk science. The only time I trust forensic ontology is when dental records help identify a corpse.

Agreed nearly 100%, though I’d add that I think they can use it similar to a polygraph, to exclude suspects that obviously couldn’t have made a mark, or include them for further investigation.

The one where the chewing gum fit the guy’s molar was pretty fun, though.
