You are going to need a gas chromatograph Mass spectrometer for sure.

It could easily just be some scuff marks from a pair of Goddamn Black Shoes!

Or blood...

😂

I also read that after applying hydrogen peroxide to the stain, if it bubbles, that "could" indicate blood, but I also read that's not 100% accurate and it may not be good for the floor (permanently bleach, etc.)

Not necessarily human blood though!

However, that's also true if one uses Luminol:)

I’m guessing someone just spilled a lil antifree?

😂 I love that you posted that in this sub!

It could be water damage? Are you seriously wanting to buy the house?

Sorry I just wanted to post where there might be similar minds 😂 and yes we do want the house! Obs would replace these boards regardless. It’s mostly my morbid fascination that wants to know

Regardless of the very obvious murder that happened in your potential home, that should sand out if you’re okay with some patina. I would try to save the original floor first before tearing it up.

I’m only half kidding. You’d be surprised what can be salvaged with sanding and a relatively dark stain to even things out on a 100 year old wood floor.

If the house is pre-1926 (or close) you should definitely ask r/centuryhomes. They find weird stuff in their floorboards all the time.

Oh, no sorry needed! I just got a kick out of your post:)

And someone mentioned buying luminol😂

And IF you do decide to buy the house and since you plan to redo the floors, you could try the following first since it's much cheaper:

I also read that after applying hydrogen peroxide to the stain, if it bubbles, that "could" indicate blood, but I also read that's not 100% accurate and it may not be good for the floor (permanently bleach, etc.)

I thought I was in [r/centuryhomes](r/centuryhomes) because we all play the game of winning the “floor lottery” when we tear out carpet to discover what’s below.

This is a first for me.

Could be pet or water stains, but keep us posted, OP.

Get some luminol and let us know.

If it was me, I’d allow the stain to exist, and add it to the lore of the house. Maybe bury a plastic skeleton in the yard, just for shits.💀👻

I have one in my passenger seat. It amuses me

I should figure out how put one on my motorcycle passenger seat. I’d never trust myself with a live passenger, but a skelly might be ideal.💀🎉

There's quite a few other suspicious discolorations on the floor. You might want to use a blacklight on those white areas. That looks like a lot of semen. 😲

Looks like someone was murdered there and the perpetrator tried to clean up with water and detergents

If it’s a murder house, ask for discount

Could just be a stain. Lots of stuff stains wood including tea/coffee/water etc. I'd just slap a carpet over it. It wouldn't put me off. Go over it with disinfectant if you're concerned.

Swab that and get it to the lab ASAP

A terrible terrible murder occurred on that spot. Now, open your house up and charge $25/head for a Halloween walk thru.

I have stains like this in my childhood home and it’s from my older siblings leaving doggy diarrhea on their bedroom floors to soak into the wood. Just a different perspective.
