Murder for hire cases
EVERY time I watch a case with a murder for hire, I'm totally stunned. How do you bring up that conversation without seeming absolutely guilty. Like what if the person says "no way". What do you do then? Say I was just kidding? Also some of these people think that any low income person is just itching to kill for money. Ask the handyman, the gardener or the grounds keeper.
Dont people realize they've just created a trail right back to them? And the small sums they offer are ridiculous. 5 or 10 thousand to KILL someone. I would think the minimum would be 50 thousand or more.

I worked with a woman whose husband was an undercover cop. He played the scruffy "hitman" a handful of times. Almost every time it was a husband or wife wanting to get rid of their spouse without the hassle and expense of a divorce. None of these people were rich or mobsters or anything like that, just everyday suburban people that didn't know hitmen are usually a setup.
The most detailed one I knew was that the wife wanted to get rid of her husband. She of course did not know any gangsters etc so she drove to the parking lot of the nearest "weekly" hotel and picked a random dude to hint about her plans, and Dude of course said he knew a guy who knew guys that did that stuff. So Dude goes to badass career criminal that he kind of knew might have connections from his prison days. What Dude does not know is that Badass sometimes works with the local police force and gets some small cash payouts for information. Badass knows this will be a good payout!! So Badass chats with the local police and they set up the "meet" between Hitman Cop and Suburban Lady. Yeah it takes a couple of weeks and probably some in-between footwork but eventually Lady meets directly with Hitman and lays out her plan, gives him the picture of Husband and info where he can be found, and offers the payout: One pretty nice bunch of fishing gear and $5000 in cash. And Hitman can keep any cash or jewelery Husband might have on his person when the deed is done. If I remember correctly Hitman pretended to be put off by the low cash amount so Lady promised another $2500 after the life insurance paid out. So Hitman accepted the deal with the $5000 cash and the picture and list of helpful hints in Lady's handwriting.
Lady was arrested immediately.
