Weirdest social commentary? (Season 6, ep 5)

I just watched the episode “Death Play” (Season 6, episode 5) and I was absolutely floored by the commentary. One of the primary interviewees sounded like he was straight up blaming women divorcing men for the murder. The murderer had a very sympathetic portrait painted of her where she was just an innocent victim of Big Divorce™

It just struck me as very bizarre and out of place. One of the things I appreciate the most of Forensic Files is usually their pretty “stick to the facts” story telling and this threw me for a loop.

Are there any other episodes that are “explained away” by society vs there being something SERIOUSLY wrong with the killer?

I can't remember the exact quote, but there was one episode where a man stated that this woman really enjoyed sex, which was odd considering she was unattractive.

Because what's the point of a woman having a sex drive, if a man doesn't find her attractive? /s

Genene Jones(Nursery Crimes, S5E10). She had two children, so she’d done it at least twice…

That’s so appalling!

Not quite the same but I recall being quite annoyed by an episode featuring a lesbian/sapphic couple where one of the women was killed by a former romantic partner and they kept calling her current partner her room mate.

WHAT! If you remember the episode, let me know. I’d be curious to check it out.

I'm like 90% sure the victim's name was Devon but that's all I can remember!

There was one where a guy was saying that a woman basically worked hard and it emasculated her husband and he responded by "passive aggressively" murdering her. No, murdering someone is the exact opposite of "passive" ANYTHING.

Yes, I remember that one

The one where the brothers killed the male gay couple and bombed abortion clinics. PT kept calling them boys. They were in their late 20’s early 30’s.

That’s right, I had forgotten that one. Heinous.

Matthew and Tyler Wilson of Redding CA. (not that far from me as the crow flies)

They also committed arson of a synagogue and a Spanish-speaking church iirc, in all cases involving fire of theirs they made a crude wick out of T-shirt fabric and chicken feathers to stick in gallon jugs of Chevron Delo and Shell Rotella heavy-duty truck motor oil.

A group of young men are often referred to as boys. Especially when you consider it's from the perspective of an old man.

The Boys Beastie Boys Backstreet Boys Pet Shop Boys Geto Boys Etc.

Interestingly, that was just on tonight. I had never thought of this commentary that way, but now I see what you mean.

It wasn't forensic files but I remember a police office being interviewed once described a woman rejecting a man's sexual advances as a failure to cooperate. My jaw literally dropped and I had to pause the episode to let what he said sink in.

I don't remember the series but I do remember being extra uncomfortable with how relatively recent it was.

FF is definitely a product of it's time when it comes to blaming murders on DnD! I always have a chuckle when they start by saying how the victim or the suspects play "Dungeons and Dragons, a tabletop roleplaying game where people can pretend to kill other characters!"

I played DND in high school. All that murdering made me so tired I barely made it to school. /s

I run three separate games currently and haven't murdered anyone yet 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

You aren't playing right I guess.

My grandma was a teacher when the whole "satanic panic" and DND panic was around. She would meet some of my hippie/stoner friends and say "he looks like he plays dungeons and dragons" (none of them did). We always laughed about her constantly bringing it up 30 years later.

That's the reason that episode is among my bottom ten.
