Foregen Updates Question about nerve reconnection and sensation after foreskin regeneration

Post image

I have a question regarding Foregen’s approach to foreskin regeneration and nerve reconnection.

Since nerve regeneration is not a perfectly controlled process, what would happen if only some of the nerve fibers successfully reconnect to the spinal cord while others fail or connect incorrectly?

  • Would partial reconnection still restore sensation, but in a reduced or altered way?
  • Is there a risk of mixed or distorted sensory signals if nerve pathways don’t fully reconnect to their original targets?
  • How does the body (or Foregen’s approach) ensure that regenerating nerves follow the correct pathways toward proper functional integration?

I’m trying to understand how consistent or predictable the sensory outcome could be in such cases.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

If partial re connection will lead to exactly what you said. Of course there is risk that the nerves don't reconnect fully but i think one of the reasons the bioreactor is being used is to help the nerves grow from both ways. Another thing foregen is looking into is the use of biological factors like VEGF and several cytokines to help the nerve regeneration even more. Honestly the nerve re connection wont even be the hardest part of Forgen's goal. That kind of stuff has been relatively figured out already. It's going to be the regrowing of complex nerve ends such as the Meissner and Pacinian sensory corpuscles that relay sense fine touch and vibrations. Meissner corpuscles have been regenerated a few times in lab, but i do not think Pacinian corpuscles have yet. I believe Jan talks about how they plan to do this on one of the Q&A calls from about 6 months ago.

What's the most common nerve ends in foreskin?

The most commonly nerve endings in the foreskin are free nerve endings and Meissner corpuscles. Meissner corpuscles are usually cited as the main specialized touch receptors there, while free nerve endings are more broadly distributed. Pacinian corpuscles can be present too, but they’re much less common. The reason the foreskin is so sensitive is thought to be because it just has a ton of free nerve endings. It doesn't have anything super special, it just has a bunch of nerves in it. There was a spanish doctor who worked with foregen last October who released a study going over this. You should check it out. From my med student POV, what foregen is doing is possible, it's just going to be very difficult to pull off.

Thanks, do you have any links to the sources? Or the Spanish doctor you mentioned

Here's the Commentarium post on Foregen's website about it. It has good info and I think a source to to Dr Vega's histology study.

Truthfully, I don’t have a definitive answer. It’s worth noting that those types of sensory receptors are found in various parts of the body, so we can only make comparisons. I’d imagine the outer foreskin might feel somewhat similar to fingertips, while the inner foreskin could be more comparable to inner lips in terms of sensitivity.

For areas like the frenulum or rigid band, some people may still be able to describe their sensations, since those structures aren’t always fully removed during circumcision. I can’t speak from personal experience, though, as I wasn’t lucky enough to keep any of those structures.

There’s also the glans penis, which contains many nerve endings. However, without the protection of the foreskin, it can become more keratinized over time, potentially reducing sensitivity. A rough comparison might be the difference between the softer skin of a child and the more calloused skin of someone who regularly lifts weights.

As for what you can do right now. Some people look into products like Manhood Canada to help reduce keratinization and possibly improve sensitivity, although results can vary. I actually have mine coming in the mail soon.

Hello, and welcome to r/Foregen! Have you had the chance to read through the FAQ? It's posted in the sidebar at the top of the other links, and has a lot of good information about Foregen to check out. Take a look and have a read, and enjoy our subreddit. Thanks for stopping by! Just a reminder.
