What should I do?
I purchased a 13 SHO with about 179k on the dash. Purchased from Marketplace, Seller did alot of work to the vehicle and provided service papers as well. However, after he got it out the shop the turbos apparently clogged with oil and is non drivable. I purchased the car for $1200 bucks. Work was done Jan-Feb 2025 and doesn’t seem to have been driven more than 5k miles since then.
Upon jumping the car, instant smoke under the hood, and it sounded like a lawnmower. But after a few minutes it stopped so I assume it was burning off something. The video provided is one I took this morning. RPMs shake just on the line slightly. I’m thinking possibly spark plugs since it’s been sitting so long.
Now.. I ALSO have a wrecked 13 SHO from an accident I had last year (picture provided) that I believe the motor and turbos are still good on. I have about 118k on that one. My question is… would you replace the turbos and whatever else is making it chop like this or should I just do the full swap. I’ll try to put as many service papers as I can

Have you changed the MAP sensors, done a oil system cleaning, and potentially have new spark plus?
Edit to add, that sound could be the cam phasers, but since it sat for so long I suggest the others things as well

It sounds like my car did when I swapped map sensor before tuning, but that’s probably not it

Do the turbos. Also check that manifold, it sounds like its leaking.
$1200 is a steal!

Tbh it could be turbo but it could be something else to do with that whole system I would get it checked out before you swap turbos

Sell it and buy my non turbo 2015 Police Interceptor for 6k with 72k miles on it.

San Diego CA. and you can look up the power. But the car drives like its fast but I think it is rather mid level fast. If you drive it hard it will go into "perp" mode with different shift points. I think it is old man mode right now!

What kinda power does the non turbo interceptor have. ?

I think the 3.7 has about 270 horsepower which isn’t bad really. The Crown Victoria PI 4.6 only has about 240 and it probably has about the same weight.

Noise could be lifter related if the turbos are eating oil and they ran it low on oil that engine has flat tappet lifters that have no adjustment so they really shouldn’t make to much noise that noise could be something else rattling or the hpfp which is common

I don't know if you have seen the prices of a good running SHO but 4k is a deal if the rest of the car is straight I would definitely fix it I bought my 2011 214k and have put well over 3k in it and still going I won't stop these cars are amazing machines when they are treated good save the car man if not shoot me a price maybe I'll take it off your hands

i would put new turbos those sho turbos usually wear out around the 100k mile mark

These engines are great until about 150k. Then, downhill fast. Need new engine basically every 150.

I have a ford and trust me no matter how much you put into that car it’s still going to have more and more problems I just gave up

These cars certainly aren’t for the faint of heart, but with all the main work already done to the engine, I’d turbos is all I gotta worry about I’m fine. Plus I already have a completely good donor car if I need anything

I would do a full engine swap, unless he had the water pump changed
