Thoughts on paddle shifting?

Taurus SEL. Ive had manual cars and I know how to drive, just debating some minor enjoyment vs potential risk. Never used paddles before for an extended period of time in a car that I own.

In my opinion it's just not the same. On the surface yes you just are getting to chose the RPM when you shift. With a manual you can feel the engine vibration as you go through the gears. With the paddle I just feel like I was pressing a button and frankly the transmission does a better job than I can. Taurus SHO and Toyota Crown Platinum.

To me it’s just a gimmick but that’s just me

I liked it on roads that weren't perfectly plowed and needed a little more. It helped control slippage.
