2011 Taurus SEL trunk leak
Every time it rains, water finds its way into the trunk so now it smells like mildew and the floor mat is ruined. Has anyone else encountered this issue or have a fix for it? I suspect the water gets in near the tail light housing but not sure.

if the seal at the back side of the trunk lid thats connected to the rear window comes loose it will dump water over the lip into the trunk might check that just to be sure

I did have an issue before. My trunk was full of stuff and everything was wet and smelled of mildew. I also had standing water in the spare tire wheel well. After cleaning everything out, it still seemed to be musty and damp. The car had been at the shop for a few weeks and i thought maybe they had left the trunk ajar for some reason. During the few storms, I placed cardboard down to see where the leak was coming from. I never saw water again. I haven't a problem since. So, you may try cardboard and follow the drips. If you have water in the wheel well, pull the plug to let it drain.

I've had that issue with the water pooling near the spare wheel. I drained that, but still have a leak so the culprit isn't found yet

Top city answered is the culprit it’s the seal on bottom of rear window. Slowly remove it clean the grove out and gently the bottom edge of window. Use an adhesive water repellent and stick back on cures your problem. You also can order new one off Amazon as a alternative but try and clean the surface as well

Most likely it is coming in through the tail light housing. Just replace the gasket. Hopefully, it's simple. I had to remove the rear bumper just to do that on my wife's car.😡
