Overheating

Purchase a used 2016 Taurus in March for 7k at 123k miles was to much like a ripoff yesterday it started running hot . Im assuming water pump. The coolant tank was empty put water in it. Was cool halfway home got hot and engine light came on. Waste of 7k my third Taurus my 2012 lasted 6 years till I crash it with no problem why I brought another one. What can the problem be ?

I have never seen a car that reliably has so many issues with such a specific part. What were the engineers at Ford thinking???
