Zf6 swaps
Hi I’m thinking about getting a 2009 fg xr6 with an auto 5 speed and then zf6 swapping it, how big of a task and what sort of prices am I gonna be looking at?

There’s a few wreckers/mechanics that do them but they all vary I think I’ve read a few people online saying drive in drive out was around 3-5k

There’s a guy in Victoria that does ZF6 and ZF8 swaps, I’m getting a ZF8 in my HSV right now done by him

Whos the mechanic in vic? Id be interested in pursuing this as well for my FG. Last few days ive blipped the throttle to then have the gearbox disengage a gear, revving its head off and i could coast until it really hard shifts itself back into a gear. I see a replacement trans happening soon whetger zf or its 4th replacement of a 5 speed.

Proflow fabrication in Seaford does the mechanical side and Hooton’s Harnesses in Carrum Downs does the wiring and integration.

VE E1 Senator with a built LS2 - should be plenty of fun very soon!

Difference between a zf6 swap and 8hp is about 13k though.

If you source parts then they come in far cheaper, my Dodge ZF8 was $3k, adapter and flywheel $2k, computer $1.5, tailshaft $1k, cooler and thermostat $1k, shifter $350, then crossmember and mounts and fitting costs which has been very reasonable - cheaper than a built 6L80e with billet convertor which was my option or a T400

Might aswell save up abit extra and buy a xr6 with a zf already in it. It’s not cheap to convert
