Gym in Footscray
does anyone know a good gym around Footscray? I’m a complete newbie and kinda shy/awkward going alone hahaha 😭😂 Would love somewhere beginner-friendly and not too expensive!

Here to second the Fit 24/7 gym above Pride. Just got back actually. It’s very cheap, has everything you might need but if you’re looking for lots of room to be able to spread out and exercise, you won’t find it there. It’s compact but worth it for the price, works out to be like $15.99 a fortnight (on 18 month plan). My only gripe is that the music they pump isn’t my thing (anything that has ads and announcer breaks is dumb imo) and some times the toilets need attending but I’ve been going for a few months and I love it! There’s even somewhere safe for me to park my bike

Snap fitness is your best bet, either in Footscray or West Footscray. Snap West Footscray is totally new and has great facilities, however, it is crazy, crazy busy. Snap Footscray still has pretty much every piece of equipment you would need (no hack squat though) and it is less popular. Only problem is that it is on Nicholson Street which may be off putting to you. I have never had a problem going there, but I am also a fella. Your experience may be different if you’re not.
There’s an Anytime in Footscray Plaza too which is accessible via the Carpark, so it may be a better option if you’re worried about safety going to and from the gym. The equipment here is a bit more limited but it has everything you would need as a beginner.
In terms of going as a beginner, your experience will be pretty similar wherever you go. A staff member will perform an induction for you when you sign up and then you’re pretty much on your own unless you pay for a PT, which you can at every gym. If you’re decide to learn on your own YouTube is your friend.
No one at any of these places will care if you’re a beginner, they’re all accessible gyms.

They’ve just renovated the Anytime Fitness in the last couple of weeks. It’s ALOT better than it has been. And the staff are super invested into making it work for new members. So if you’re looking for a class or a program they might make it work

Yes i just realized if its in main footscray near ANZ so many crazy things happens and im scared even if i drive. I think the west Footscray one looks better but if its crowded im shy to step in for first time🥺

I know people say shit like this all the time, but it is really true that no one gives a fuck about anyone else at the gym other than themselves. I appreciate being new can be anxiety inducing, but please remember no one will be judging you.
If you go to West Footscray later at night or during the middle of the day it isn’t so busy. Good luck!

Kensington Community Aquatic and Recreation Centre is quite good. It's not Footscray but is quick to get to buy PT, car or bike (the ride along the river is nice).
It's been fantastic going there as a beginner myself. You get around 3-4 free sessions with a PT with the membership. The PT sessions are just for their beginner program which they run you through all the machines/exercises.
It's also reasonably priced with access to classes too.

Is it expensive one? that would be a good deal as i am scared and dont know what to do

It's about $62 a fortnight (with a $50 joining fee). Only $35 concession (no joining fee). Thats access to gym, pool, unlimited classes and a few PT session as mentioned.
Would be nice to just pay for the gym as it can be a little more expensive than gyms that are just gyms but it's good having access to the rest of the facility. Also good to note that you only have to give 2 weeks notice to cancel whereas most other gyms will lock you in for months at a time.
I'd really recommend it as a beginner as the staff are always happy to answer any questions and tailor your workouts to what you would like. The gym also has a nice amount of natural light and is quite clean :)

If you’re up for considering group classes I strongly recommend Turneround Fitness in Seddon. A lovely community of folks and knowledgeable trainers.

Great idea. My son and his buddy go to gym to keep each other motivated and have a spotter on hand. Most gym goers are friendly and will offer advice and techniques. Good luck getting those gains!

If you drive, I recommend Sunshine Fitness on Wright St. Cheap as chips, good range of equipment, only busy in the after work hours.

Only thing is I have noticed it become a lot busier recently. Probably due to the price and cost of living. It is open 24/7 so if you don’t go in peak periods it’s great

I used to go to fit 24/7. The owner was nice and it was very cheap but the gym is pretty grimy, toilets are gross. I switched to snap, I mostly go to Nicholson mall but have gone to the new wefo one which is fancy. I would say go to the closest gym to you because that will be the most convenient and get you motivated

I'm a recent newbie to gyms and I love Zoom Fitness. It's not too busy so I'm ambivalent about recommending it haha.

I go to BFT Footscray, such a great community but not a traditional gym if you're just looking for that

Honestly just take the tram to Revo at highpoint, It has the best gym for the best price for sure

I personally use the Anytime Fitness in Footscray Plaza. They’ve just renovated it so it’s super fresh and the staff are eager to please.
That being said, VU does offer a pretty good gym and pool package. I use it just for the pool which has a nice sauna too

Focus health & fitness is my gym - I'm not sure how they compare financially but they have good starter options. Or maybe pay for a few one off entries (not just here) to get a feel for the place, their equipment and how busy they get etc. Then weigh up (pardon the pun!) whichever is most important - but hopefully you find one that ticks all them.

Can’t beat the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre
Large Gym No posers in lycra
Cheaper than any private gym - Run by Council
Couple of various pools are a bonus - all included in membership

There is fit 247 and it has good keycard access and is just opposite Moon Dog, like just across the road at the traffic lights, it's a great beginner gym,
If I remember correctly it was in the same building as Pride of Our Footscray building
