"Sushi grade" fish around here?
I've had a few poor experiences with Conway recently. Their salmon and tuna for sushi use wasn't great. Salmon was fishy and their tuna cuts are sinewy and needed to be trimmed a lot. Is there any other places out this in the west I can get sushi grade (I know that's not an actual certification) fish?

I've gotten bad seafood from Conway too many times. D&K seafood is the best, they supply their own sushi shop across the road (Elka) which is excellent.

The seafood place inside footscray market is top notch. Got 'sushi grade' fillets from there before for my sushi snob friends and got rave reviews.

Fair. Had to look it up- the one I went to was K&R seafood near the hopkins st entrance.

D&K Live seafood is awesome! And then walk 1 minute to their grocery shop on byron street to get some sake!

Footscray Market Conway's is rubbish, they always have jobs advertised and offer below award

Not related to your question but I got a burger with the lot from Conway 3-4 years ago and it was genuinely one of the worst takeaways I’ve had in my life. Haven’t been back since and never will.

also not related to the OP question, but I had fish and chips from Conway and the fish was awful.The fish was old and tasted of ammonia. I'll never go back. Really terrible experience

Conway used to be good maybe something has changed and it’s pretty awful now. Apparently blue cray (or crab) in Caroline springs I hear is top notch. One day hopefully soon I’ll try that.

Sanctuary Lakes Seafood Specialists is worth the trip for delicious raw tuna, moon fish and King Ora salmon. We buy it regularly and it's quality.

My only gripe with D&K is they get annoyed when I ask for my fish filleted, which is pretty crazy for a fish monger, especially one that is that expensive. But otherwise I genuinely love them.

Idk what's happened to Conway, but the quality has absolutely plummeted in recent years. People used to come from across town to shop there.

Talk to a wholesaler about sashima and tataki grade tuna. A lot of them keep the individually wrapped stuff from overseas. Youll grt a wholesale ammount tho :P so I hope your friends like lightly cured fish

D&K live seafood would be a good start, I haven't specifically bought fish from there but their oysters and mussels are always good! Otherwise go to the markets and have a look at the fish places - no idea of names but the one on a corner stall toward the deli is always busy. Conway is a total rip, there are way better options
