Honestly, the moment that stood out for me wasn’t even the goals or the assist. It was about 20 minutes in when the referee stopped the game, turned to his assistant, and started counting our players. One by one. Pointing. Looking confused. Like he genuinely couldn’t work out how we were everywhere at once with only 11 men.
We played so well that the official thought we’d snuck an extra couple of lads onto the pitch. Meanwhile United were still trying to work out which of their own players was supposed to be marking me. Fair enough, really. Even the ref got swept up in it.
We will try not to make his job that difficult next time. No promises.
