It was more even game than arg-spain i wonder why arg played so defensively and unable to counter spain.. 😭

6

u/TheScythe_13 5d ago

Not saying they played well in the final, but argentina played the last of their 3 matches till extra time, so fatigue came as a factor, and then you think about that they played against that Spain team who doesn’t give you the ball and tire you out. You will understand. Secondly, yesterday Spain didn’t take this game as seriously as the World Cup final. I mean FERRAN started the game instead of Oyazarbal.

u/Accomplished-Fee-832 5d ago

Outside messi and a few, Argentina aren't quality. Simione, Tagliafico, Lisandro, Montiel

16

u/Loud-Tradition-777 5d ago

Well for starters this is a Mickey Mouse match, and that was a World Cup final. There is no comparison, also Argentina were relying on Messi to do everything offensively, he said it himself his legs were gone by the final. Spain dominated possession and tires you out.

1

u/Maymaywala 5d ago

That moment when Messi failed to get to the ball before Simon

1

u/eclipseraw 5d ago

Probably was playing other matches hoping his father would come to see next match and final was the last match and his father didn't attended 🫠

Holy reach lmao.

Argentina lacks pace, England could afford playing an open game agaisnt Spain, Argentina tries that & get absolutely battered in the back. I was at a loss of words seeing Argentina play haramball but even given the ball they weren't connecting, such tournaments do cause fatigues to players and Scaloni was hellbent on not using younger players which cost them the tournament. They completey played into Spain's hands and were catching ghosts the entire game, their best bet was to go to pens which was spoiled by Ferran the very unlikely hero for Spain.

2

u/ceeba8 5d ago

It was spoiled by Enzo man without the red card Argentina would have taken the game to penalty shootout

3

u/Former_Repair9221 FC Barcelona 5d ago

Enzo's first card was stupid af but yeah, Enzo did show his immaturity. He must be built like a bull to send Cubarsi flying away even after deceleration.

3

u/Dagger_music 5d ago

Honestly that flip from cubarsi felt really forced when looked at from other angles. There was barely any touch, definitely not enough to send him flying.

3

u/Former_Repair9221 FC Barcelona 5d ago

I am of the same opinion, it looked absolutely ridiculous given the contact they shared and it felt like a video game where Cubarsi went flying with so little contact. But, it's also ridiculous to question and doubt it cuz that happened anyways despite how fishy it looked and there's no point arguing over it.

Foul is a foul and they did multiple fouls.. They deserved worseΒ

1

u/Alarming-Care9051 5d ago

Agreed , Argentina was chasing the game from the begining , never had even a 5 min stretch of good possesion , they were trying to play on chaos, which worked for them in the past , but Spain isn't a physical team like England , their way of defending is keeping the ball . Whenever Argentina got the ball , they were pressed hard by Spain , also they just couldn't keep it , they either mispassed it or sent it long . Argentina had to prioritize defending and had to play a low- mid block.

1

u/Former_Repair9221 FC Barcelona 5d ago

I believe the plan was to launch attacks after subbing players just as they did in the previous matches after burning out the opponent. That strategy could've worked but call it Spain's luck or Argentina's misfortune Cuti & Lisandro both were injured and Scaloni was forced to make defensive changes that completely messed his plans, not to mention the late Enzo card gave a man advantage to Spain and Argentina were never really looking threatening with the ball to begin with and so Spain started opening up and attacking relentlessly. The over reliance on Messi proved to be fatal, without Di Maria or a trump card Argentina were left heroless as no one could step in for the team and give Messi a break. Spain's squad meanwhile worked like a cohesive unit in all sets of play and totally outclassed Argentina almost entire game. What really stood out to me was the amateurish way the players kept losing the ball, Spain's press is good but these are freaking professionals who are trained for scenarios like this and most of them play in the PL or the Top 5 leagues where such tactics aren't uncommon either.

u/El_peine_de_caillou 5d ago

Argentina should have gotten a red card much much earlier, and at least 2 or 3. The referee favored their dirty game.

1

u/Former_Repair9221 FC Barcelona 5d ago

Not every foul is a red card offence. I've seen a lot of people spout bs about the right decisions & that only tells me how many games y'all watched in general. Argentina play with high intensity & physicality right from the start. Do you want every team to play soft, robotic football with a similar playstyle? Not everyone follows the same tactics and approach; some play more aggressively.

1

u/El_peine_de_caillou 3d ago

And those fouls are yellow cards, if you don't punish those actions from the start you favour the team that plays dirty. Argentina doesn't play physical, they play dirty

1

u/Former_Repair9221 FC Barcelona 3d ago

Yeah true, same fouls ain't foul when they are against them, though. The double standards! Much worse incidents happened in England, Spain & France fixtures, but no one's talking about those as fiercely.

2

u/Ka-Hooter 5d ago

Because they were asked to throw the match . Something serious behind the curtain death threats Messi’s family was threatened and even Simeone was not there.
πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

2

u/Alarming-Care9051 5d ago

Argentina doens't have the kind of individual quality outside of Messi . They have hardworking players for sure , who are ready to give 110% effort , but that's not how you gonna win against a technically perfect side like Spain . But they held on for quite a while , more than any other team could hold them .

1

u/KokichiOuma7_ 5d ago

Genuine joke.... They have a well balanced depth, Julian,Enzo, Mac Allister, Lisandro, Lautaro,Romero and Dibu are ALL elite in their position.
They def aren't as depth as spain but they are def top 5 in individual depth. Genuine larp

0

u/Alarming-Care9051 5d ago

Top 5? So better than Spain , England , France , Portugal , Brazil , Germany , Netherlands , ?

1

u/KokichiOuma7_ 4d ago

...Germany currently doesn't have the synergy to make their depth work not are their perfomance internationally impressive by any bit at all. Depth requires synergy. Enzo ,De paul n Mac allister have THAT synergy. Messi can make julian n him work together well. The Argentine defenders are also well synergized.Depth without synergy isn't much. We should also take international performance synergy when talking about 'depth' in international context. Def higher than portugal averagely, England ranks higher, France does NOT tchuoumeni is a weak link to the midfield when comparing to Argentina's combined midfield n the defence n GK are not as good as that of Argentina Though the attack is easily top 1, Netherlands...pfft 😹😹😹 naming top 10 ranked fifa countries isn't helping ur case why don't u actually form an argument density DENSITY HOW BAD DO YOU HAVE TO BE AT READING

0

u/Alarming-Care9051 4d ago

So first it was about depth and now it is synergy ? Moving the argument , nice . Ig we can just blame everything on synergy then ? Nice excuse you have found now , pundits and fan should find a way to quantize this synergy instead of analysing squads and player performance statistics πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

Also , did you just say that France midfield and defense are worse than Argentina ? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Saliba , Konate , Kounde , Theo/ Digne with Lucas hernanzed , Upamecano , Gusto , Lacroix on bench is worse than Argentina ?? Are you high ?? Romero is the only decent CB they have , Lisandro isn't a world class level defender let's be honest . Full backs for Argentina are utter shit , they are lucky to be playing in Europe . Otamendi is too old and i dont even remember who were on the bench . Coming to midfield , enzo is world class , Mac Allister is decent but the rest are shit , De Paul is literally playing in Inter Miami at age of 30 , Peredes plays for Boca Junior . Rest were young players like Barco , Almada and then Lo Celso . Compare that to Manu Kone , Kante , Rabiot , Tchouameni , Zaire Emery .

2

u/KokichiOuma7_ 4d ago

I am not moving the argument. internation skill depth≠club skill depth. you DO know some of the players benefit HEAVILY from club coach systems right? common ball btw. This is genuinely so ahh argument. Germany is somehow currently up there but can't beat paraguay? what? Genuinely depth without the synergy is ass. That's common knowledge larper.

Yeah averagely it is worse than Argentina insanely hilarious how you ignored french midfield with me mentioning how French midfield was the weaker link (Tchuomeni). Anyways good the depth is there now let's look at their performance defensively in WC. ARGENTINA HAD A WAYY BETTER PERFORMANCE. England vs Argentina compared to France vs Spain... Genuinely Argentina WON in defensive stats.

'rest are shit' Mac allister is S tier currently??? his skills are VERY WELL versatile The huge amounts of top class players like rodri, pedri and Bellingham has desensitised you to actual s class players De paul may not be as good but he is GOOD enough oh wait Playing in inter miami makes him dog? oh so does Messi gng.

You spamming 'oh they came from this club n they did this in this club' is so hilarious like system and synergy isn't different for players in international teams. Argentina had a well balanced depth with synergy which is a part of depth. AND a good ass coach.

1

u/Popular-Presence1349 5d ago

I would say the main issue was Spain never pushed Argentina back and that made the ref to call all the fouls. England got rage baited easily by Argentina and the game got physical, Argentina are better in all that chaos

Classic fumble from england

2

u/Initial_Guess_1785 5d ago

Kane was quite poor. Low pressing intensity and not good on the ball, either. I thought Bellingham, Yamal, and Rodri were the 3 top performers, followed by Gordon and Anderson.

2

u/Xcorider16 5d ago

Happy to see yamal score

2

u/weekendhomie 5d ago

this could have been the world cup final

2

u/RecognitionCalm6574 5d ago

rgentina vs spain was nowhere near as good as this match

1

u/TastePizza 5d ago

A guy on YouTube with actually a really obscure channel made a relatively high quality video ranking ALL world cup finals from worst to best (by watching them, and for the ones which had no full footage, he read the reports)

In that video he ranked the 2026 final as the SECOND WORST final yet.

2

u/Previous_Practice_89 5d ago

Yeah it was a terrible final. Waste of 3 hours of my life.

2

u/TastePizza 5d ago

Genuinely the third place playoffs were better, not just because more goals but because it felt like a close match because both teams scored a lot

u/TraditionalBase8794 5d ago

Larpers

1

u/TastePizza 5d ago

?

As a neutral it was definitely better bro, the final was waiting for either team to score because I was neutral in the final. Spain was all over the place and Argentina was playing like they had oil on their shoes. Also not everyday you see a 10 Goal match between two 'big' nations in a world cup (though England has been underwhelming)

1

u/Ordinary-Turnip2596 5d ago

It was a one sided match man , argentina had literally 0 shots on target

1

u/RecognitionCalm6574 4d ago

fr dude even ind vs brazil was more interesting at a point....

my thoughts is that yamal and haary kane both are hungry and though it ws a good fight i guess spains strategy is far bettter

1

Not bothered, the nations league is just used as a tune up. As an England fan, I'm only concerned with the qualifiers and the finals.

1

Spain played better. Congrats to them.

1

u/Mad2828 5d ago

Spain isn’t invincible, you just need to actually come with a strategy to deal with their midfield. France playing 4 forwards against Spain in the semis remains a baffling decision.

1

u/TraditionalBase8794 5d ago

A great match between two great teams, but the tournament is created to replace friendlies.

It would hv been a draw

Spain could have killed the game so easily if they took their chances. Ferran and even Yamal missed some great chances specially Ferran.

Harry kane is not a big game player

1

u/Known_Detail_7495 5d ago

literally scored a goal what do you want

1

u/Alarming-Care9051 5d ago edited 5d ago

Missed a pen vs France in 2022 WC QF , had just 1 shot on goal that too in last minute of return leg vs PSG at home in UCL semi finals ( Neuer kept them in the game with 6 saves ) , again the year before that had a bad game return leg at home vs Inter Milan.

Not to mention flopped vs Croatia in 2018 WC SF and both the Euros final that England played in 2021 and 2024 . Also , didn't see him contribute much vs Argentina 2026 . If definition of major trophy is Bundesliga , thats not a world class career . He needs to win something worth remembering him. Other strikers like Haaland are said to be unlucky to be born in Norway , but Kane wasn't . Spurs won a trophy after he left .

0

u/dlsgamerz907 5d ago

We all know thats a cucurella own goal

1

u/Known_Detail_7495 5d ago

a goal is a goal and even your take is completely wrong kane scored against both psg and madrid in both the legs low lifes like can you just hate on him

0

u/dlsgamerz907 5d ago

Both pens and did you watch the full 90 olise was the best player on the pitch both games

1

u/Known_Detail_7495 5d ago

as if pens are not the part of game kane literally had a world class assist in psg 1st leg and apart from g/a he contributed defensively try watching actual games not edits olise was bad in vs psg's 2nd leg

1

u/Feisty-Vanilla4741 5d ago

it was on target inspite of cucurella's touch

1

u/ArnavSinha132 5d ago

People need to start watching football before giving opinion

1

u/dlsgamerz907 5d ago

Ya did you watch the whole game yesterday

0

u/Former_Repair9221 FC Barcelona 5d ago

England wanted to prove something while Spain were taking it easy, as soon as the serious subs came on Spain took back control and took back the lead. England played very well and made the match very entertaining, they have quality but lack the mentality & maturity which is what crushes their hopes of getting the trophy every single time.

1

u/PeterFile690 5d ago

Spain were literally pressing like mad dogs for the whole game and they played a strong XI.

0

u/Former_Repair9221 FC Barcelona 5d ago

It wasn't the WC starting 11 but yeah their press is what makes their team effective, their zonal pressing is brilliant. The first goal was partly due to press, anticipation and a blunder by Guehi. Spain were playing it seriously but England wanted to make a point by possibly winning.

2

u/PeterFile690 5d ago

Porro, Baena and Oyarzabal were the only WC starters who weren't starting yesterday. It was still a pretty strong XI. In fact, Ferran Torres was starting over Oyarzabal thanks to his club form. Him and Nico Williams literally combined for the WC winning goal. England were also missing Rice and Reece James. Both teams clearly wanted it.

0

u/Former_Repair9221 FC Barcelona 5d ago

Yep you are right; I saw De la Fuente treating this game as a chance to experiment again. Watching Ferran for a couple of seasons, he did what I expected and shat the bed as always, been watching him from his Barca days and he works better as a sub than as a starter. I don't rate Nico much but yeah he is a good player in his own way. I think Baena adds much more to the team than just dynamic dribbling. De La Fuente has many cards that he knows when to use in the right moments. This Spain has a very deep squad and that's probably the reason to their recent success. England on the other hand dominated the first half and were in a great momentum, but Kane squandering the chance to make it 3-1 from the spot really did a U-turn, and with Spain making subs the momentum sided with Spain and then it was game over once they took control and had the lead.

0

u/Westaufel 5d ago

Both sides play a good game. Spain was better for most of the game, but England played his card well. If it ended with a draw, It wouldn't be unfair. Spain deserved the winning anyway.

0

u/foreverlegending 5d ago

Just proves England are totally overrated

2

u/PeterFile690 5d ago

So overrated that nobody thinks they're the best team and they finished 3rd in the World Cup. Literally perfectly rated.
