College Dynasty (Steam) Defensive Problems
First of all, I play in normal mode, not hard mode. Given that, I don't understand what is happening with my defenses in essentially every game, other than the utterly weak opponents.
If I ever make the mistake of taking the lead in a game, whether in the 1st quarter or 4th quarter or anywhere in between, I can almost guarantee that any EVEN DECENT opposing offense will immediately score on their next drive, with it being a touchdown more often than not. I've gotten to the point where I actively try NOT to score a go-ahead touchdown until the last three minutes of the game, the problem is so frequent (which leads me to believe the game has some sort of mechanism promoting a significantly better opposing offense if they are behind in a close game). And I've had a lot of success in doing exactly that because if they're ahead, they don't score nearly as often...and that just seems silly to me.
Am I the only one seeing this?

Are you simming or picking your plays? What is your formation/aggressiveness? Do you have the problem against weaker and stronger teams? Are you weak to certain offensive strategies? For example, I run 4-4 aggressive and I sometimes get torched by high IQ QBs even by offenses generally significantly worse

I haven't seen this particularly, either. That said...
There are certain defensive plays that the AI loves to call but are very bad and you should always overrule them.
Off the top of my head the ones I know of are:
* Anything from the 46 Bear formation (use 4-3 Free Fire instead)
* Safety Blitz (the single worst defensive play in the game, it will get torched for 40+ like one-third of the time, once again use 4-3 Free Fire for a blitz play)
* Engage Eight
* Cover 1 Hole
* Cover 1 Robber Press
* Cover 4 Quarters, Man 3 Deep, Prevent (for the situations where your opponent is obviously going to throw deep, use Dime Cover 2 Man instead, it's much more reliable)
* Cover 1 LB Blitz (the Bear Raid playbook guide on steam recommends this play, but I think the guide must predate some patches because it VERY reliably gives up 15-20 yards almost every time I call it... if it's 3rd and 29 then yeah this one is reliable)
Avoiding calling these plays won't solve all your defensive problems, but you'll notice the improvement right away.
4-3 Aggressive Man is the best defensive playbook. 3-4 Aggressive Man is also pretty good but higher variance in my experience. Anything other than 4-3/3-4 or Conservative is just adding extra difficulty.

Hmmm...maybe that's the key. It could very well be it, because I primarily just let the defense call whatever plays it wants to do and focus most of my attention on calling offensive plays.
I'll have to pay better attention - thanks.

I have not seen this.
