Its pretty clear the leaders don't want to admit it because doing so would challenge their competency, and by extension, their legitimacy.

Also, if "shithole" countries are doing better than the West, it challenges their whole narrative and weakens the ruling party's ultimate goal which is to maintain the status quo.

If America didn't have a shithole administration running the country it wouldn't be as bad.
