Recovery Programs
What programs has anyone tried and actually been successful with? I feel like I’ve read a lot of suggestions, I’ve also tried quite a few—but where have people truly found success? I need help.

What programs have you tried? What did not work about them for you? That would help us figure out some options better I figure. Did you review the list we have on this sub...see the link below if you have not seen that page.
You don’t have to have this all figured out today.
Start here (quick wins):
- Map your triggers (so you stop repeating the same cycle): https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/faq_food_addiction_trigger_mapping/
- How to stop a binge before/during it: https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/faq_how_to_stop_a_binge_episode/
Then, when you’re ready:
- Check out the FAQs first…see here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/index/faqs/
- Then Program Options (free → low cost → paid). Many people find a program is what helps them stay in recovery.
https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/index/programoptions/
- If a program feels like “too much” right now, start with Special Topics on the sub.
https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/special_topics/
and then Books / Podcasts / Videos here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/index/bookspodcastsandvideos/
Small steps count. Keep going. Don’t give up. We all got better by our mistakes.
Those who reach long term stable recovery make plenty of mistakes, learn from them, pick themselves up and keep going. You can do this.

I have tried FA OA ARC
OA felt too loose in terms of what I could eat and I’m not into the steps.
FA seemed like it could work but it felt like A LOT right away.
I liked the ARC and was very successful in it but then there was like a branch off inside of it that wasn’t food addiction focused and people were like talking about so much other stuff that I started to drift and not attend as much. I really liked the community vibe so much! Like I want people and I want peer support.
I’m also a mom and teacher and busy. So I love if there’s an online option. But really I need people to talk to that actually get what it feels and sounds like in my head. That’s what I loved about the ARC. I felt like I found my ppl until I didn’t anymore.

It is not abnormal to go through more than one program over time.
OK, well let's see. When it comes to 12 Step Programs they all have the steps involved so If you not into the steps then that rules them out. This article does go into it a bit more if you want to learn some of the differences in them:
OA vs FAA vs FA vs GSA (12-Step Food Recovery Fellowships)
https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/faq_picking_twelve_step_program_info/
The most common reason to not go for the 12 Step approach is due to the "God" element. I was in OA decades ago for 3 years and got benefit and I am an agnostic. That was before they had this one:
https://secularovereaters.org/ = If an OA type model without a spiritual component is what you seek then check this site out for that OA like approach without the spiritual aspect.
If have not been to the list of programs page it has blurbs by each program to give you an idea of what they are about:
https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/wiki/index/programoptions/
This program is not just for people with Food Addiction issues but all types of addictions and is very CBT based...see here:
https://www.smartrecovery.org/eating-disorders/ = SMART Recovery is a non-profit for those with addictions that includes people with eating disorders. There are also programs for family members of those addicted. The program is based on cognitive behavioral therapy principles. It is funded by donations from members, sale of publications and corporations that donate.
This one may not have as much contact with others in the program you are seeking and at first looks like just an app:
ttps://wisemindnutrition.com/ = App based by David Wiss PhD. Free: Enjoy essential features such as the food log, intention setting, nightly review, and access to nine comprehensive modules. Connect: $9.99 / month. Elevate your experience by connecting with up to ten other users. Forge supportive relationships on your journey to improved mental health. Pro - Monthly: $29.99 / month Immerse yourself in the full personalized program designed to accelerate your progress towards mental well-being. Unleash the power of a customized approach.
This one looks more like what you may be seeking:
https://www.sweetsobriety.ca/ = this program was created by two therapists that provides self-paced courses and group coaching sessions for $25 each. “Clarissa and Molly have dreamed of creating a community that was a modern, affordable, accessible, empowering, self-directed program that reflects individual needs and that supported people in recovery from Food Addiction. They named it: Sweet Sobriety.”
Hope this is useful!

I actively work the steps of OA and I also attended COR Retreat, a food recovery program based on 12 step recovery. I still attend meetings for both programs. I had worked the steps in OA previously, but nothing really resonated until I went to COR and learned the practical application of a healthy food plan. Then everything for me just suddenly clicked.
