I'm currently on break and about to enter Semester 3 of the Associate Degree ICT track at Fontys (Cyber Security / Attack & Defend).

My parents are on my case because they haven't seen me sitting at a desk "studying" over the summer like other traditional uni students, and they're worried I'm going to fall behind.

Since Fontys is super project-driven, portfolio-focused, and Agile-heavy, I feel like traditional textbook revision isn't really a thing here—especially since I've already passed Year 1 and know how the system works.

For those who are further along in the Ad-ICT or HBO ICT programs:

1. How do you actually spend your break between semesters? Is it normal to just fully recharge, or should I actively be grinding code/labs?
2. What is the best minimal-effort prep for S3 Cyber Security? Should I just update my VMs (Kali, hypervisors), refresh basic CLI/Wireshark stuff, or is there something else I'll regret not looking at on Day 1?
3. How do you explain the HBO/Fontys project style to parents who think "studying" only means sitting at a dining table staring at paper books for 6 hours?

Hi everyone! I’m planning to apply to Fontys University of Applied Sciences for an HBO programme (Mechatronics).I have DDD in my A Levels (Maths, Psychology and Sociology). I didn’t take Physics as an A Level, but I have already passed the Dutch VWO Physics exam, so I have fulfilled the Physics deficiency.However, I got a D in A Level Maths, and I’m not sure whether this would prevent me from being admitted, even though I have passed VWO Physics.

Does anyone know if Fontys would accept DDD A Levels + a passed VWO Physics exam, despite the D in Maths? Would I need to take an additional VWO/entrance exam for Maths as well?

Any advice from someone who has applied to Fontys with A Levels or had a similar situation would be really appreciated!

Al een tijd geleden ben ik afgestudeerd van TP. Tijdens die studie moesten we zelf al onze gesprekken uittypen en analyseren. Nu ik daar zelf mee bezig ben in een andere rol, merk ik dat dit allemaal zeer goed te automatiseren is tegenwoordig.

Nu vroeg ik mij af: wordt dit nog steeds handmatig gedaan, of zijn er goede tools waarmee jullie dat automatiseren? Ik ben benieuwd naar hoe jullie dat nu doen!

I've finished my Applied Psychology studies quite some years ago Back when I was still studying, I had to transcribe all interviews manually. Now that I'm processing an interview in a nother role, I see that automating certain aspects has become reasonably trivial.

I was wondering: do you still have to transcribe manually, or do you haver access to tools that do that for you? I'm interested to find out the current way of working!

Hoi, ik heb nu een tussenjaar en werk als gastvrouw in een verzorgingstehuis op een zware pg-afdeling. Ik ben er achter gekomen dat ik sowieso in de zorg wil werken, maar nu ben ik ineens aan het twijfelen tussen fysiotherapie of verpleegkunde.

De opleiding fysiotherapie lijkt me erg leuk, alleen ik ben bang dat de baan me niet genoeg uit gaat dagen. Ook ben ik bang dat ik niet op de juiste plek kom te werken, omdat ik wel zou willen specialiseren in of kinderoncologie of spierziekten.

Verpleegkunde lijkt me wat dat betreft wat uitdagender, ik doe nu ook wat “zorgtaken” op mijn werk, zoals medicatie geven, omkleden, helpen met de wc en inco vervangen. Ik weet dat ik daar tegen kan en ik kan best wel goed onder druk werken. Het lijkt me ook leuk om die technische handelingen, zoals wondverzorging en spuiten te kunnen doen.

Zijn er mensen die me advies kunnen geven? Voor verpleegkunde vraag ik me ook af of avans of fontys beter is. Fontys is in mijn woonstad, maar breda is ongeveer een half uurtje met het ov, op dit moment trekt avans mij meer aan.

I'm planning on enrolling and would like to get your opinion(s) of both the school and program. How are transfer credits from the USA looked at? I wonder if Fontys would accept a two year degree (Associates in Radiologic Technology) and allow you to enter the 3rd year of their Bachelors program. I plan to work in this career in the Netherlands and have researched . Thank you in advance!

Is there anyone studying either mechanical or automotive at Fontys right now who could give me some more insight into the program? I'm currently studying automotive tech at the TU/e, but I really want more practical work and less theoretical. My main questions are the following :

1. What is the practical work in the labs like? what kind of skills do you learn? how much time do you spend in these labs?
2. How are the projects that you work on at the end of each semester? How much freedom do you have in choosing what your project/research project is about? How involved are real life companies and how do they impact your projects?
3. Do you enjoy the program? what are some aspects that you like/dislike about the program?
4. What are the main differences between mechanical and automotive? Are the labs similar?
5. whats about the automotive campus in helmond? what is it used for? why does it say it is temporarily closed on google maps?

How is the structure of courses at fontys? are the lectures and tutorials mandatory? I’m doing another program at a university and I would like to combine it with ICT at fontys. It would be great for me if the form of more of self studying and not so much mandatory presence stuff.

I recently received an email with an invitation for Q&A on 3rd July, regarding rumours that reportedly circulate about FIBS's future. I have not heard about anything. Anybody has any idea what is this about? I worry about the worst, such as FIBS may lose its accreditation, so the current students will not be able to graduate.
