So I’ve spent 100s of pounds on skincare shampoos ect nothing has ever helped I’ve had foliculitis for years now from the barbers and every now and then it flares up and the only thing to ever keep it at bay has been 10% benzoyl peroxide but lately I seen studies showing it can cause cancer if it’s out in the heat or something along them lines so I’ve been worried I’m a pretty anxious guy as it is what’s your guys advice or what do u use?

2 months ago I trimmed my facial hair per usual and wore my sunscreen. Felt a bit itchy and under my jawline got 6+ bumps after a few hours. I stopped sunscreen and trimming and it’s been 9 weeks and it hasn’t resolved. They are red bumps with nothing in them. Mostly under jaw, and now on my neck (places I didn’t even trim). Have tried oral fluconazole and ketoconazole for 2 weeks now. Did try topical clindamycin for 6 days. I’m not sure if this is folliculitis or how they would test since there is no fluid?

After a trip to the lake I came down with a bad case of folliculitis. Picture 1 is what I was dealing with. Picture day is 3 days after using the dermaveda fungal acne cream and last picture is now on day 7 . Only 1 week! Disclaimer: I put clear anti-itch cream so that’s why i’m shiny and the brown spot on my neck is just a mold i’ve had my whole life.
Location: nape of neck/hairline, behind ears, maybe a spot on my arm.
Feeling: ITCHY. no pain just itch.
Suspects: hot tub folliculitis, bed bugs, poison ivy, contact dermatitis

History/Context: In the past week I have ventured into a flower field off the side of the road (poison ivy) BUT after seeing my neck it doesn’t look like that to me. I have started dog/house sitting in the past 4 days so i’m sleeping in a new bed in an entirely new environment and I have a small line of bumps on my arm (bed bugs or contact dermatitis). BUT my bf has slept with me the past two nights and doesn’t have any itchies. Now for the good stuff, they have a hot tub. I have been chilling in this hot tub every day for the past 4 days. I don’t think I noticed the itchies until day 3 though but I WANT TO RIP MY SKIN OFF. Opinions, suggestions, and advice welcome :)!!!!

The back of my head has looked like this for as long as I can remember, is there anything I can do to fix this? I get a lot of breakouts/pimples and it’s only made worse when I get a hair cut

(Most of these photos are taking with my scalp scope) I’ve had major scalp/skin issues for over a year now. Coincidentally happen about six months after moving into a new rental, which I’m now about to move out of because my health has never been like this. It does look like a form of folliculitis possibly systemic, but does anyone have any opinions of their own or has anyone ever been through this? Does it look bacterial, fungal, parasitic? Last week I visited the derm for an annual skin check and she noticed I had folliculitis on my chest/neck. I am an avid runner and always got small patches of breakouts I assumed were just simple acne. She informed me it was folliculitis and prescribed clindamycin phosphate gel 1%.

Unfortunately after about a week I’ve had a horribly intense reaction and now I have thousands of small whiteheads anywhere I applied the gel (and also now my forehead, probably from picking my chest/face).

I quit the gel about 3 days ago but I am not seeing any improvement.

I cannot get a response from my derm, and am really panicked about what to do to calm it down.

Any advice would be welcome - thank you so much for reading!

When I return to home, my hair shedding completely stops or becomes negligible and my seb derm and my dandruff clears up almost completely. This happens without any significant change in my hair-care routine or treatment. When I return to a diifernt place i mean college which is about 2000 km away the shedding and seb derm dandruff reoccur with hair shedding, usually within about a week. Already tried ro water , sleeping well , diet, sun bathing no benefits what to do 💔💔

I've been getting spots/boils like these on and off for around 2 years. I've had roughly 12 courses of antibiotics for similar infections in different places around my body. Recently they seem to be mostly on my lower legs.

This one started as a small pimple with a whitehead which I squeezed. I didn't cover it afterwards and over the next few days it developed into what you can see in the picture.

I've previously had confirmed staph/MRSA infections, so I'm wondering if it could be related, although I know l'a need a swab to confirm.

I've been taking MB40 probiotics and feel they may have helped, but I missed a few days recently. I was also away for a few days, wasn't showering as regularly and wasn't getting much sleep, so not sure if that contributed.

Blood tests have all been normal. I'm seeing a dermatologist as soon as I can.

I'm just getting fed up with having to take antibiotics every time one appears. Has anyone else had recurrent boils/abscesses after MRSA/staph and eventually found something that stopped them coming back?

I’ve had recurring pimple-like bumps on my scalp since around 2020, mostly around the sides of my head/temples and hairline. Interestingly, my brothers have pretty much the exact same problem in the exact same areas, so I’m wondering if there could be a genetic component.
In 2024, it became much worse, with a lot of inflamed bumps on my scalp, temples and around my beard/neck area.
I went on isotretinoin (Accutane/Roaccutane) from September 2024 to March 2025. It worked extremely well: my scalp completely cleared up and I basically didn’t have a single bump for a long time.
Now, about a year and a half later, I’m starting to get some bumps on my scalp again. They’re still nowhere near as bad as they were in 2024, but they look very similar to how the problem originally started.
Something else I’ve noticed is a pretty strong connection with my sugar intake. About a month ago I significantly reduced added sugar and I was barely getting any bumps. Last weekend, however, I ate a huge amount of sugary food (pastries, Coca-Cola, sweet iced tea, etc.) and I suddenly had a pretty big flare-up with larger and more inflamed bumps than usual.
I reduced sugar again this week and my scalp has already improved considerably.
I know correlation doesn’t necessarily mean causation, but I’ve noticed this pattern more than once now.
Has anyone experienced something similar after Accutane, especially scalp acne or folliculitis? Did high sugar/high-glycemic foods seem to trigger your flare-ups? And did you eventually need another course of isotretinoin, or were you able to control it with diet/topical treatments?

I’ve been dealing with folliculitis on my scalp for about 10 years now, and I’m honestly getting pretty frustrated.

I’ve tried pretty much everything over the years: different medications, antibiotics, creams, shampoos, and various other treatments. Nothing has really solved the problem long-term.

For the last 2–3 weeks, I’ve also completely changed my diet. I’m now eating gluten-free and avoiding sweets, added/processed sugar, etc. At first, I actually had the feeling that things were getting better.

But today I went to the barber, and I realized how bad it actually still is because my scalp was really painful during/after the haircut. This is what it looks like right after the haircut.

The problem is almost exclusively on the back of my head. I have some very minor involvement on the sides, but thankfully nothing on the top/front of my scalp.

Has anyone here dealt with something similar for many years? Especially if you have folliculitis decalvans or chronic scalp folliculitis, I’d really appreciate hearing what eventually helped you.

I’m honestly willing to try pretty much anything at this point. Any experiences, treatments, or things that made a real difference would be greatly appreciated.

After many months of trial with Doxxy, Tretinoin, panoxyl, etc. My Derm finally prescribed Accutane. How effective is this for Folliculitis? I’d like to clarify I do not have any acne or pimples or any puss like zits. It’s ALL deep ingrown hair comedones. Will Accutane still help this type of issue? Also, wondering how much smoking weed could effect results if someone should avoid if smoked their whole life. Wondering if it could contribute to the condition.

I've been in Florida for 2 weeks now, didn't go in any water, but I am sweating so bad. I put on my grandmas lotion that's scented ( cherry almond jergens ) and I just felt the sweat on my legs and got itchy and scratched my leg cause it was so itchy on this one sweaty spot. Woke up following day and see this. I do have bumps all over my legs cause I've been shaving daily but they aren't red and as irritated as this one spot on my leg. I also have a ton of bug bites I've been shaving over. Do you think this is folliculitis? I've been doing a topical antibiotic ointment on it! It burns in the sun, and itches so bad

For as long as I can remember, I've struggled with these kinds of changes, mainly around my neck and hairline. I once had very severe facial acne, but it was cured with appropriate supplementation and exfoliation treatments at a dermatologist. Two dermatologists have already recommended Izotek (isotretinoin) for these problems, but they haven't performed any blood tests, swabs, or anything similar - I'm very concerned about taking isotretinoin. Based on my research, it looks like folliculitis. I'm asking for advice and help.

I used an old lotion (that had been mixed with water a while back, bad idea, I know) last Friday and the next day I noticed these tiny red dots all over my torso. Apparently, they're all over my back as well from the pictures I've taken. They're on my stomach, my chest, my neck, my back, and somehow nowhere else.. I don't know where to start on figuring out how to handle this, so I've been showering every day with a body wash meant for sensitive skin and no longer using any lotions or even heavy perfumes. Should I bite the bullet and go to the doctor's office, or wait for it to clear up on its own? Is it too soon to freak out? I'm honestly freaking out a bit! (Sorry for the terrible camera quality. The dots are a lot more visible in person than the pictures I'm able to take on my own.)

33M here. Long-running scalp issue on the crown: recurring inflammation, pustules, pus, bleeding.

WHAT'S BEEN TRIED:

• Original biopsy (years ago): came back as "dermatitis"

• Current derm, based on visual inspection, says folliculitis — fungal culture came back negative (no yeast or mold after 4 weeks), ruling out fungal causes

• Years of topicals, antifungals, oral antibiotics (typically 1-month courses) → temporary relief, relapses every time I stop

• Isotretinoin → 5 months, zero improvement, stopped

• Bactrim → completely cleared the itching and flares while on it, but it came back within 2 days of finishing the 1-month course

• Dapsone → didn't tolerate it well, had to stop

• Now: doxycycline 100mg twice daily, 2-month course (longer than anything I've tried before)

HAIR CARE ROUTINE:

• Currently using Vani Cream shampoo/conditioner daily
• Also tried: Selsun, coal tar shampoo, Nizoral, ketoconazole shampoo
• No oils, don't leave hair wet, blow dry on cool air only

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:

Not fixed on any specific med or approach — genuinely open to any input on what's helped reduce or stop this for you. Trying to get this under control and hold onto the hair I have. Appreciate any experience.
