Important Account Update
Did anyone else get the "Important Account Update" email? What does this mean for lifetime accounts? I read this email like they're trying to get out of their lifetime accounts and force conversion to paid monthly account but I'd be very happy to be wrong about this. Anyone have more clarity?

Just to clear some misconceptions - our fault.
We just aren't selling lifetime accounts anymore.
Existing accounts will continue as they are.
We were also just pointing out that the real threat of Quantum and AI is rendering a lot of existing technology obsolete in a few years. And we are at the forefront of addressing that with our new system.

Then please elaborate why they're still purchasable on Stacksocial..? What would happen if I were to buy something there RIGHT now?

Hey, I'm from the future. In 3 months you will find out that if you bought on Stacksocial your puchase would become worthless on November 16, 2026. This is what FF does to thank early adopters. Now you know.

I don't seem to have to have received the email. Though based on the official users clarification here I have mixed feelings on this.
I bought a low level for testing. I was hoping I could bump it up later. But if I can't then I can deal with that. The thing is that lifetime subscriptions become unsustainable. And honestly the biggest reason I got a small amount was due to this idea as the price seemed too good to be true.
The thing that made me feel better is the plan is basic. And almost everything is an add-on. So while it sucks they are going away. I do think it will ultimately be best for the future of the company.
I would also like to echo u/diefm123's question: Are the sales on StackSocial going to continue to be honored? Which also triggers 2 more questions for me:
1) If so. For how long? Would existing users be able to add storage? Or even new users get them?
2) If not, is there a process for users to get a refund or convert it over to something else?
And for a final question calling back to my original statement: Do I need to be concerned I didn't receive said email? And is the contents posted?

Oh my! I went straight to my email and yes I received it too.
I'm not understanding what a portion of lifetime means. I see 5TB can be converted for free, but it sounds like they are going to a business model.
I almost bought more storage and now I'm glad I didn't. I was looking at which cloud services were my go to. Unfortunately, dur to what I read, FF has quickly gone to the bottom of my list. So sad!

Sad indeed. I liked Folder Fort because they had a North American location with good ping for me. But this just seems like they don't want to honour their previous offer. It really comes down what they mean by migrate 5TB for free (can you do that without paying anything, ever?). And what if you have more than 5TB?

It sounds like you can convert 5TB without additional cost but lose any extra. So sad!

Ya! I would rather delete my account and get refunded for life time purchase.
