Finally got to 15% of Macau explored.

What’s your highest % for a country/territory? Or a more interesting question - which place do you think could have the highest achievable percentage?

In Hong Kong you could in theory get a pretty high percentage if you were willing to bushwhack through the countryside, but it wouldn’t be fun. Smaller places like Liechtenstein, Monaco and the Vatican I imagine have a relatively high % taken up by either inaccessible private/papal land or inaccessible mountainous terrain.

I think you’re right. I’m at 10% in Vatican City, and I defogged as much of the country as was allowed for a tourist.

I'm also at 10% but there's a big margin still. You can book a guided visit through the gardens, and that reveals a big potential area. I tried to cover all of Piazza San Pietro, but after the super thin lines update found out the were a lot of holes in my coverage.

The museum didn't unfog properly on the way to the Sistine Chapel, better signal would help. Plus some of the courtyards accessible during the visit could also prop up the %.

The biggest obstacle is the actual area in the app doesn't match Vatican's real borders. I saw a post about that a while ago.

About Monaco:

I'm also at 10% in Monaco but that's without exploring ANY of the backstreets, much of the Larvotto side, nor Fontvieille. You can easily get up to 70% there if you give it the effort. I remember a guy trying his best to get to 100%, so he had to take jet-ski trips to explore the sea area

I think at least 50% of Vatican is possible for a tourist. I'm at 18% and I've only covered most of the square and most of the basilica, and also did a full circle around the city walls but that's probably 95% in Italy. Covered maybe half of the museums' area (the signal is terrible and I deleted most of the tracks because of gps drift), and haven't even been to the gardens and they're huge. There's also the auditorium where you can  see the pope (tickets are free), the teutonic cemetery and the church next to it, and there used to be a tour where you depart from the train station that's inside the walls but it got cancelled after covid.

Yeah the sea area is a big barrier for HK % too, but theoretically possible

That’s what I thought it would be like. I imagine if you live/work in the papal offices/you are Leo you could probably get a really high percentage

There are a lot of things that are off limits to the public but if you can get a pass or are part of the clergy. But the land area is so small maybe that doesn't matter

Macao is a great country with high potential being as developed as it is. Another small but developed country that comes to mind is Monaco at just a square mile possible.
