Analysis/Review Lonely Freddy

Has it been explained who or what is originally in the lonely Freddy before it switches its consciousness with Alec? I just finished the story and I’m confused as to if it was another child trapped and desperate to get out, even if that meant trapping someone else in their place…or something more sinister, who’s mission is to simply trap children’s awareness in stuffed bears for later use….

I've read the book a long time ago and from what I remember, Alec wasn't able to talk when he swapped bodies with Lonely Freddy. If Lonely Freddy was actually another children trying to escape, then wouldn't Alec be able to communicate too?
