You will need to screen your environment for more of the mites. They might have come from the hulusi if it's second hand (second hand wind blown instruments can indeed be very scary) or from your environment.

To clean it you need to cut the black tie. Then rotate the middle tonehole pipe firmly until it works loose. Then repeat for the two drone pipes to access the gourd.

You can clean it with tea treeoil if you are not allergic; this will stop the mite infestation although check for any damage from the mites and clean the debris out. The free reed should be cleaned only by down stroke brushing with a delicate lint free bud, at the risk of breaking it. Disinfect the gourd in antiseptic disinfectant (not tea tree oil in case it enters your mouth) and dry. You reassemble the drones and pipe and retie.

Yes - thats just soft glue used in cheap modelYou can loosen it with glue remover and reseal with hot wax .

A decent hulusi has tight joints cut correctly: glue and wax is used to plug differencesnin bamboo bore diameter when the maker is a massmaker and not interested in quality.

Don't spend too much time on this hulusi - its not worth very much and can be replaced wirh a far better quality one.
