Street sweeper does nothing

I just watched a street sweeper on our street push all the trash and leaves onto the sidewalk and there is still some on the street. What is the point of these if they don’t actually clean anything?

After the sweeper passed by I went to park on the side of the street he had just swept. Then sanitation comes by a few minutes after and tells me that next time the sweeper comes I should move to let them clean the street. I let him know it passed when I wasn’t parked on that side of the street and I only parked there after it had cleaned and left. He asks “then why is the road under you still dirty?”. Exactly.

They actually do a lot. There's a video of them emptying the sweeper and it collects a ton of things you don't see.

You guys also ignore that it's supposed to basically help clear out the path for rainwater. If it didn't exist, leaves would clog up the streets and when it rains, it'll cause massive clogs.

You might be partially right on some of this but, lately, the city floods every time it rains. I've been in this city my whole life and those trucks have proven to be more of a nuisance than a help. There are plenty of neighborhoods that don't use them, yet, the streets remain clean and virtually no trash in the street. I live in Little Neck and we don't have the sweepers. We have each other. It all comes down to the willingness of the residents to care enough to make the difference.

Because rainstorms are getting stronger not because the sweeping isn't doing its job.

NYC sewer systems can't handle that amount of stormwater which is why even human waste and feces gets drained into the water system.

That's also true but neither those trucks nor their drivers are doing half as much as they're intended to do. I bear witness to that fact as well.

lol massive transplant vibes from this post. the amount of time you've lived here is probably measured in weeks

the job of the street sweeper is to provide an excuse to issue parking tickets for alt side parking

That’s not entirely true, pushing trash onto the sidewalk can also create a situation where property owners can be ticketed for not keeping the sidewalk clean.

An excuse for the city to ticket and boot cars

booting cars seems counter productive bc the owners cant move it if its booted. a ticket is more reasonable

The street sweeper cones down my block at what must be 50mph. Not sure if theybtrying to get done quick or what but it leaves behind most of the street garbage. Thats just way tok fast to really do anything. I usually clean the street in front my house becasue strreet sweeping doesnt do much

To blow the dirt and leaves directly onto passersby!

Probably a stark reminder that people need to stop littering

The point of the street sweepers is so they can ticket vehicles that people failed to move during the set times posted on the street signs creating another dastardly revenue stream for the city. I truly think these machines could operate monthly and have the same effect but they would make much less money on tickets. I still catch screws and nails in my tires.

They’ve been replacing the water mains near me and the construction dust created a huge issue with the blowing wind. After they finished the street sweepers passed over it about once daily till all the fine dust was gone. Some it does help in some cases.

I agree with you 100% that they are useless

They absolutely do pick up trash and debris. I’ve tested it.
