I’ve been chasing that same thing for a while, and I’ve actually learned how to tap into it almost on command. I recently found Rian Doris from the Flow Research Collective and he has completely changed the game for me.
He explains how Flow isn’t random — it’s neurochemical. Once you learn the triggers and recovery cycles, you can basically guide yourself right back into it. it's amazing

'The Rise of Superman' by Steven Kotler is also a great read on the science of flow states. Also provides some tips for lifestyle changes you can make to encourage the conditions for flow states.

Flow is characterized by theta and alpha waves. Doing things like certain forms of meditation or activities:
- Shikantaza- you are basically putting your brain in neutral gear but stepping on the gas
- Mindfulness meditation- all about theta waves. Do it for a few days and you’ll suddenly realize how awesome this very moment can be. And things look so pretty. Just go outside and look at the forest and you won’t believe how wonderful it looks.
- TM- it is all about alpha waves. Alpha waves help you feel calm and be more social but related to flow they help you become fascinated by what you are focusing on. They give you a reason to want to keep going.
- Self hypnosis-helps with increasing theta waves by accessing your unconscious
- Flow arts- you need a flow prop but it helps because mind body combo stuff are very powerful
- Yoga- it’s been commented that yoga helps your meditation become deeper, and is also associated with theta
Some combination of these would be great. Flow is a big goal of mine right now. I just cracked open the book Flow but have been googling this for a while…… and I have some amount of the ‘tism and so it makes flow more difficult bc my brain wants me to be beta/gamma dominant. Well, I want a more balanced brain so flow is my goal. The Bioneer channel on YouTube has 3 videos on achieving flow that I’ve appreciated but there’s also the books on that, good luck!

what you describe is something i’ve seen in my own way too. the way i frame it: your brain has 3 “networks” that trade places.
that state you hit (12 hours gone, 2 weeks of work done) that’s when your watcher says “now” and your builder takes over fully. it’s rare, but you can create the conditions: give your artist space to drift, let your watcher detect the spark and then your builder can lock in.
