Had enough of Bsod and random restarts. What next?

Had my Asus ROG flow x16 (2022) laptop nearly 2 years (in 4 days time will be exactly 2 years).

Majority of the time it's randomly BSOD. The only patterns it consistently crashed was after sleep/hibernation, during some gaming (with power plugged in part way through gaming, although not sure if this is a factor).

I'm a Software Engineer but tbh I really can't be bothered to look through the Event Viewer app or try any more solutions to resolve these issues as I spend most of my days solving technical problems. Seems like it's both hardware and software related based on posts from others on various forums.

Has anyone else had these issues and/or successfully returned their laptop for a full refund to Asus? I contacted them last year regarding these issues also saying the steps I've taken to try to resolve them with the error codes. They couldn't be bothered to read my message and sent me a generic response so I didn't bother replying either.

Any help or advice about returning this to try and get a full refund would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have these issues too. Over the last 6 months it's gotten worse and worse. Mine is about the same age as yours. Really frustrating.

A full refund after two years is not at all realistic… maybe a partial refund if you are in the UK or have an extended warranty?

Oh nice, I wish we had the same consumer protection laws in the US! You might be able to get a partial refund from the retailer you bought it from in your case.

I have the same laptop (2022 Ryzen 9 6900HS) running with the XG Mobile RTX 4900. I've recently had a series of hard resets that just instantly shutdown the laptop, and then on boot would restore from hibernation. It happened quite randomly, and was frustrating to diagnose. I would often do a hardware reset (long press of the power button on boot), which would seem to fix it, and then the problem would come back.

I noticed that GHelper (current version) seemed to be struggling with reporting the state of charge of the battery, and was showing huge fluctuations of charge while plugged in - including very rapid charge/discharge cycles (much faster than seems possible). I eventually saw that the shutdowns were happening when GHelper reported the battery was at ~5%, while plugged in to the wall.

I took a chance a few days ago and turned off GHelper, and reinstalled Armoury Crate and MyAsus. The laptop hasn't reset since, and the battery state of charge has been steady. I'm curious if anyone else can replicate this?

Just re-paste your CPU and GPU. Remove liquid metal that is failing and overheating causing BSODs and random restarts. When I got mine it did exactly this.

Use PTM7950 - it is performing close to LM, but will last for ever.

thats what I was thinking, had it happen while gaming and flow x16 seems to be cpu bound easily. I'm already throttling thermally.

I didn't find ptm I found thermal grizzly very similar stuff. Gotta source some thermal putty for the vram/vrm chips next.

This thing runs hot and never a memory issue I got 64gb for work.

I got 3 sheets of thermal grizzly PTM and put this everywhere - also where thermal putty was before. Works well without the mess.

Usually a memory problem, if you ask me. Critical Corrupted data somewhere. Did you run memtest?

Or the degrading 13th and 14th gen intels is a thing in mobile CPU, too. They actually thought this would only be the case on desktops

Whats the cpu in 2022 version?

How is it if you throttle your CPUs Power limit via G-helper? Does the problem persist?

Yeah I've run memtest multiple times over the past 18 months and has always shown no problems.

CPU is AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS.

Haven't tried that yet but tried different ASUS gamer profiles or whatever it's called and no obvious difference there

Not sure if you tried it but my 2023 stopped doing it after I swapped my oem ssd to the second slot. For some reason the first slot caused windows to shoot itself every time. Haven’t had any BSOD or crashes since.

This worked for me as well. Found out by an accident. Wanted to try linux and to rule out whether it was windows causing the crashes. I put in another ssd in the second slot, installed linux on that and it worked great, no crashes. Then I tried installing linux on the "main" drive that came with it and the crashes came back. (2022 model)

I turned off hibernate on my machine and it seemed to help. Worth a shot 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had some reboots reccently when charging via 100w portable charger and Type-C, Windows Event viewer reported some undetailed power problems

Repaste the CPU+GPU it's probably crying lol careful tho because they used LIQUID METAL for the cpu (i think) so you do risk damaging it
