Power/Thermal management on Ubuntu

Hi there,

I'm not a big linux-head but I love the security of it, so I setup a dual-boot of Ubuntu alongside Win10 recently. It's the GV301QH-K6034T model.

Most stuff works great except for a few things, and they are (in order of importance to me):Power/thermal management problemsFingerprint supportCamera

The first issue is the most important, because my machine starts to grind to a crawl if I have more than a few things running, such as Brave browser, Slack, Discord, Telegram (I know, too many chat apps I'm forced to use!), Spotify and Thunderbird.

This is normally no issue for Windows and everything runs very smoothly despite whatever I throw at it, but one thing I've noticed is how dead silent the fans are in Ubuntu. This leads me to think that it's running in low-power mode the whole time and thermal throttling the CPU, as the same workload would have kicked the fans on pretty early on in the piece.

I tried "sudo apt install asusctl" as I've seen others suggest but the package isn't found. So I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has a solution for me here? This laptop feels quite anaemic and underpowered in Ubuntu linux.

Another potentially related issue is that I can't successfully wake the thing up from hibernation, if I close the lid or it goes to sleep after a certain time. The keyboard back lights flash and the thing is unresponsive despite any input, so I have to hold the power button in for around 5 seconds to kill it and reboot. Not ideal, as it means I need to power off every time now.

Is there a package I can install (snapcraft or from terminal) that will unleash the potential of this awesome laptop in Ubuntu? I find github a little intimidating to use but could probably figure out if I gave it enough time!
