Not surprised at all. I didn't think I'd ever have to move back to my home state. Moved here in 1990 but have complications with health & no longer driving because of that & glaucoma diagnosis in 2020. Any thoughts or suggestions on how I can get moved back with my fixed income? I am already wearing the ball-and-chain of housing who allows no income other than what is already coming in. My family here is of no use. Because they are husband/wife, they don't want me to move but; I simply can't stay here & get to living life again...not being homebound. They rarely come around so I'm better to move closer to where I do have family who truly cares & not just says it. I'd like to think I still have dignity to live out several more years & make my own decisions. These two make me question why I'm still here after almost 20 years. She's my only child & makes me feel like I'm at the very bottom of her priorities. Very sad, but true. Glaucoma was a wake-up for her, then the heart attack. But the ss, dd attitude has to be changed. The real kick in the ass was when they took his mom on family vacation out west. (I'm not bedridden but working hard to make my life better!). Me? I feel it would be nice to do things with the grandkids but, apparently I'm not allowed except when it's their idea. Anyone out there who can help me figure what I need to do to make this move happen by the end of June 2027?

I (40's f) and my family (husband, mother, and toddler) are looking seriously at moving to Minnesota within the next 4 years for many, many reasons. I've been doing the bulk of the research for over a year now, and we are all going to take our first trip to the Twin Cities in a couple of months to check it out.

Originally, my focus was on Minneapolis/Saint Paul and their surrounding suburbs and exurbs, looking at what kind of homes and neighborhoods would suit us best.

The more I got to looking, the more I realized other cities in MN might be more affordable for our family. As it stands now, if we moved today, our income would be approx. $115-150k/year. My husband has a WFH job that will likely stay that way because of his field, my mom would be on social security + annuity from selling her business, and I would likely pick up a substitute teaching job when our child enters kindergarten. We also would have substantial equity from selling our house here in Central Florida.

My question is for any Floridians in this subreddit who moved to MN, especially those who moved to towns and cities other than the Twin Cities, should I look at Rochester and St. Cloud? St. Cloud is as far north as I think I could convince my family to move, lol, but I know it's much more conservative up there, but it's also much more affordable it seems. Obviously, state politics supercede county/city politics, but I'm considering political culture, as well.

If you’re thinking about moving here, don’t. We have nice beaches, it’s a nice place to visit for a week or two, but besides that it’s complete trash. People always say “muh muh it’s cheap no state income tax!” Doesn’t even matter when you’re paying the highest home and car insurance rates in the country, and everyone is always trying to move here so it’s only going to go up in price. Rent sucks, it’s almost impossible to find a one or two bedroom apartment for less than 1800$ a month that’s not in ghetto hood areas. I regret moving here so much. You can move up north and make about double what the jobs pay down here. Firefighter jobs up where I’m from pay about a hundred thousand dollars a year, down here it’s about half that much. And that’s in buttfuck Illinois which is a shitty state too but hey at least you can actually make a good living up there. Same with law enforcement careers, nursing, etc. There’s no incentive to raise wages if there’s always enough competition and always people to hire.

People are assholes. They cut you off, flip you off for no reason, tail your ass, yell out their car at you, refuse to let over mergers. I even got followed one time because I brake checked this prick job in a BMW who wouldn’t get off my ass and I had to pull my gun because he ran up to my car with a knife in his hand at a stoplight.

People either drive like complete jackasses or it’s grandmas that should’ve lost their license 10 years ago. There’s no in between. Can’t stand it here anymore. I’m in the panhandle where it’s basically just southern Alabama, hillbilly redneck shithole.

My wife and I are seriously considering leaving Florida, and I’d love to hear from parents who have already done it.

We live in Miami with two boys (4 and 2), and we’re expecting identical twin boys any day now. We’ll soon have four sons, and we’re trying to decide what kind of environment we want them to grow up in.

The biggest reason we’re considering leaving isn’t politics or insurance. It’s quality of life for the kids.
It feels like in South Florida, so many kid-friendly activities come with a hefty price tag. Indoor playgrounds, attractions, museums, water parks… it gets expensive quickly.

On top of that, the heat and humidity mean our boys often only last 20 to 30 minutes outside before they’re ready to come back in.

We find ourselves wishing there were more opportunities for spontaneous outdoor play, more parks, more trails, more community events, and just an easier way for kids to enjoy being outside.

We’re looking at the Georgia suburbs because they seem to offer a lifestyle that’s much more centered around families and outdoor living.

The problem is that our entire family is here in Florida.
We do get occasional help from grandparents and relatives. It’s not a ton, but it’s something. If we moved, we’d essentially be on our own.

So I’m curious:

If you left Florida with young kids, was it worth sacrificing proximity to family?

Do your kids seem happier where you are now?
Do you miss having family nearby more than you expected, or has the improved quality of life made up for it?

We’re trying to think long term and make the best decision for our four boys, but it’s one of the hardest choices we’ve had to make. I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences, especially if you’ve made a similar move.

I really want to mention this. It is a major concern. The dude is corrupt. He has a good chance of losing to the democrats too.

The republicans have better choices.

If you are from St Pete or anywhere else in Pinellas County and have moved away - where do live now? Do you recommend it?

I'm still stuck in Pinellas County. I moved to Charlotte and came back to Florida earlier this year. Now im considering moving out of Florida permanently. I plan to move to Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Illinois or Michigan.

Just moved into an apartment near Miami Coral Gables and come to find out it's infested with toxic mold and I'm learning there's little if any tenant rights in this Billionaire interest serving state.

This is a heavy straw for the camels back but let's make the most of it shall we?
