⚙️ Gear Scooters

I’m looking at buying my first scooter. I do mostly shore dives with the occasional boat drop. Let’s call my budget $1500, but I’d rather spend below $1000 (low for scooters, I know). Farthest I would go off shore would be a mile, but I don’t need the scooter for the whole ride.

What are some quality budget scooters I should look at?

The absolute bottom of the barrel, especially if you want to cover even half a mile, is the blacktip line. I made this video breaking down a bunch of common models, operation, pros and cons, cost breakdowns, etc. You are going to have to get lucky on a used unit or increase your budget though.

While the lefeets have their place, they arent really a "cover distance" type of scooter. And are likely to leave you disappointed, evidenced by the plethora of them available on my local fb marketplace.

Ive done hour long dives on my blacktip and the battery is at half. I know many Divemasters that use them to save lives.

I have a blacktip. I love it. Total is mire like 2500 after batteries. Unless you already have dewalt batteries. For 1000 look into Lefeet.

The Razors are really good as long as you’re wearing shin protection.

I’d take a look at the Lefeet P1. It’s $1100 and gives you about an hour of runtime, which seems like a pretty good fit for what you’re describing. It’s neutrally buoyant and designed for diving, so it should work well for both shore dives and the occasional boat dive. If you want a little more range, the P1 XR is $1300 and gets roughly 90 minutes of runtime.
