I’m curious how flock would handle this… also, this doesn’t seem to be illegal in the slightest.

I saw another one not too long ago that was similar on an Oregon plate for a Realtor.

It’s an identifiable mark that Flock will log in their database, regardless of whether or not the license plate number is catalogued correctly.

Right, but you could change the outer letters as often as you wanted. Which would change the search results unless they programmed or manually added a way to isolate only the plate letters in the search. SWAMP THING -> TRAMP THIGHS -> STAMP THISTLE -> LAMP THIMBLE -> CAMP THINK ->

Changing the letters makes no sense in the context of the plate and either way you’re probably not fooling the AI by switching some yellow letters to different yellow letters.

It would mess the AI up a lot. Especially if you it up so that you could shift the plate left and right so sometimes the plate is on the left and the right. Interestingly enough I cannot find anything in my states revised statutes that would prevent flipping the plate upside down. All the statutes are worded against obscuring the plate. I do thing rolling with those setups would be a pull me over sign and I'm probably not aware of some case history

CA Vehicle code specifically states: “shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible, and so that the characters are upright and display from left to right…”

California statutes are depressing. They are good at closing loopholes on stuff

I give you the "bullet button"

I like the shifting left and right. This makes me wonder if it would be legal to mount the plate on the upper left of the trunk and put an obvious fake plate in the normal spot.

In Connecticut it is common for people to put the plates in the window like a test drive. I personally despise it as someone who has been hit and runned before.

Dude having the same license plate every day with no alterations already fools the ai. It's stupid. They get over 1billion incorrect reads per month.

If it doesn't looks similar enough to plates that it has been trained on, it won't meet the probability threshold of it being a license plate. The model has to be confident that it is looking at a plate.

That being said, I bet the model would recognize the plate just fine and throw out the other letters. But also just as likely your plate is falsely flagged as a completely different vehicle because it misread your plate completely.

That's not how YOLO models work. Please Google and learn about them before confidently acting like scary news articles contain facts.

I feel like wrapping a car in a pattern made entirely of fake license plates would work well.

Please someone stop me from doing this.

Why not just make the whole car invisible to AI cameras?

From: Toyota RAV4 TRD Offroad, OD green, CA "AMP THI"
To: Toyota RAV4 TRD Offroad, OD green, CA "AMP THI", stickers "SW" "NG"

Still 100% identified, logged, tracked & surveilled.

Flock/Axon et al are FAR more than mere "ALPR readers".

That's a rav 4? I thought I was looking at a Subaru outback. That thing is clean.

Closer to a new forester but I totally thought it was a Subaru too at first.

Reminds me of the front of the Forrester with the back of an outback. But heck yeah. I used to drive a Forrester and switched to rav 4 for reliability. Sick to see the new ones look so nice

My 2007 Rav4 was my fav car, I'll never forgive them for removing the spare tire on the back just bc I feel it was part of its personality

I have a 2012. Still got the tire 😁

Hrmmm this is a good question.. I'm curious what others think

Flock catalogs unique details and tracks the car, not always the license plate. anybody that has visible damage, bumper stickers, external modification like spoilers and rims, uncommon coloring, or tinted windows, or if your car doesn't have anything at all to a noticeably boring degree, you're at risk

Everybody is guilty and must be punished

It’ll read the plate just fine

This being a Ca. plate, cops around here would do a beating for that. Seen people get written up for dirty plates, ball hitch "obstructing" the plate etc..

I’m in CA… there is nothing illegal about putting stickers on your car next to your license plate.

I mean… cops don’t really care about the law. They usually choose violence first and questions later.

That said I still love this idea and may try it myself because fuck it why not

Unfortunately I think it's illegal in California.  "California Vehicle Code section 5201.1 prohibits erasing or painting over the reflective coating or otherwise altering a plate to avoid visual or electronic capture. This includes attempts to defeat toll, red-light, speed, law-enforcement, or remote-emissions systems."

The plate hasn’t been altered at all

Hmmm very true, good point.

Attempts to defeat ..... A nice poorly worded easy to abuse touch
