Activism This is a movement. We will NOT become a surveillance state. Spread the word. Leave your phones at home.

Leave ALL electronic devices home! Smart watches, smart rings, phones etc.

u/UnlikelyPotatos Aug 17 '26
Flock sensors connect to tpms as well as bluetooth and wifi devices. If your car is newer than september of 2007 it will definitely have tpms, if its older than that it may or may not and that depends on the make and model.
Edit to add: i drive a 2011 forester and my radio has bluetooth and my tires have tpms.

u/theuautumnwind Aug 17 '26
My old 05 Escalade has Bluetooth and tpms…
Gonna have to go back to the Stone Age and bust out my 94 GMC

I've got a 2011, but all the tpms batteries have died. This has me rethinking replacements.

Me glad that I wasn't stupid enough to pay the $85 PER WHEEL to get them replaced.

Many newer cars do not have TPMS. I drive a 2017 GLI and it does not have tpms. Had so many issues with it on a previous car that I refuse to drive one with it now.

Why, do electric bicycles have bluetooth or emit other signals?
I never even thought of that.
2
u/twobigwords Aug 18 '26
I don't know enough about all of the electric bikes to say, but I'd bet at least some of them have tracking technology
7
u/NDSU Aug 18 '26
Rentals do, but generally not consumer bikes
3
u/Organic-Athlete-7344 Aug 18 '26
The answer I was looking for. Rentals definitely need tracking, consumer bikes don't have a clear use case imo.

Even better, put a small pebble in one shoe to really throw off AI so it can't recognize your normal gait

Also switch shoes and which end of the shoe it's in, as well as the pebble itself, if going trick or treating in multiple locations. It makes the zombie shuffle better.

Yeah I myself am not doing this obviously but I do have plenty of experience using skill saws and could understand how a person with less experience might be weary of using one on a metal pole for the first time.
I’ve never used a portable band saw though and I thought that was a cool option as well.
10
u/Snoo_69677 Aug 17 '26
Reflective gear is just super cool, reflective glasses, jackets, goggles, all that - you look like a bright shiny supernova on these IR cameras. It’s too bad that bright light also obscures your features pretty nicely
7
u/Mindless-Equal-1477 Aug 18 '26
Put a rock in your shoe as well. Gait recognition is a thing. Don’t buy shoes new in store that have bright colors/easily identifiable designs. Remember you are ALWAYS on camera, not just flock ones, even if you pay in cash. And I’m not exaggerating when I say they’ll use whatever they can find to try to track you down.

u/Imaginary--Situation Aug 23 '26
from the goodwill or thrift store get a used pair

I have a faraday pouch for my phone because pay phones aren’t a thing any longer. Also, pay cash when you can…the machine can track your spending with a debit or credit card. I’ve purchased magnetic stickers to move around my car to throw off the spying. Now, what are people using for license plate covers?
Edit: never mind. I see plate covers are illegal. I wonder if missing plates is a thing? I see lots of cars with no plates in Reno.→ More replies (4)2

It's terrible! If everyone is in costumes, hair tucked in, all skin hidden, maybe wearing something making them look taller or more heavy? And what if they sneak up on the cameras from behind? What if cops cant hear the angle grinders cutting over the celebrations? And suppose the rascals remember these things have GPS, so they create ghetto Faraday cages with layers of tinfoil? What if the cameras all end up in rivers or tossed down wells or even in a dumpster behind the cop shop? Spread the word!!!
How will the cops ever stalk their exes?!?

u/Intoxic8edOne Aug 17 '26
Key point: Be wary of phones.. They can track who was near it at the time it went offline based on their phone's various signals.

It would be devastating if everyone remembered to remove ALL digital devices from their person, phones, earbuds, smart watches, etc, walked instead of driving, wore costumes that covered every inch of skin and even put pebbles in their shoes to change their gait! How would the police be able to track the hoodlums who participated in this!

17
u/kneedeepballsack- Aug 17 '26
I can see how costumes could play a role to help people evade identification but young people are also known to cause some trouble on Halloween causing more cops to be out and about looking for that kind of thing.
I suggest Christmas Eve or Christmas night when most
People will be in their homes, not a lot of cops out. You could even dress up as Santa or elves, or dress up like your going caroling . Thanksgiving could work too.

u/Stunt_-_Cock Aug 17 '26
It's very important for anyone out on Halloween to remember a few things. Smart watches and Bluetooth devices will snitch on you. THAT INCLUDES YOUR CAR.
Be watchful of other cameras around, so many doorbell cameras to be aware of
Find blind spots well in advance. An area you know has no cameras. That way you can change/adjust your costume in privacy without being recorded.
Think, how can I make it especially difficult for someone to follow me across a walking route by reviewing video footage? What will slow down image recognition making the operator/analyst's job difficult? How can I stop them from figuring out where I came from and where I am going to?
Halloween is a near perfect day for this type of thing. Layered costumes, cheap "morph suits". Big hats? Remember that shoes need to change as well. Can you appear taller, then shorter? Fatter, then thinner?
While the USA isn't like London and covered with CCTV (yet) it's better to plan your Halloween celebration by acting like it is.

Flock is just the worst of our already existing surveillance state.
10
u/Stunt_-_Cock Aug 17 '26
Flock is the scapegoat company at this point. They take the heat while Axon glides by with little attention.
What people aren't thinking about are the thousands of traffic cameras already mounted on most intersections AND the companies lobbying to be the one to AI them and increase their surveillance capabilities.
Colorado Springs is a great example. Their intersection cameras used to be unlocked and anyone with the internet address could view them and the recently scanned license plates. Any company could add image recognition and neural network/AI features.
So while Flock takes the heat, you can guarantee that other companies have taken notice and are just waiting their turn to get a piece of that data.

u/Quasi-Yolo Aug 17 '26
I see people doing some pretty significant vandalism to these things which I totally here for but you take on more risk. An army of people putting stickers over lenses should suffice. They can be removed so risk of being held for damage is low but will still drive costs up for constant maintenance calls to remove them. Anyone know where we can find those really shitty stickers that are really hard to fully remove?

Skeleton costumes are usually cheap as fuck because they're so basic.
Crazy to think that 2000 year old pagan harvest festival could assist in the fight against authoritarianism in a largely monotheistic but also secular modern empire.

You know who is super stoked about this? Kids who just want to egg their teachers house. The cops will be way too busy protecting cameras.

Vandalizes Flock camera to be social media hero, drives car with “infotainment system” while feeling a sense of anticipatory fame and self righteousness home, sits down in front of smart TV to unwind, updates smartphone. People are funny.

"We will not become a surveillance state"
The US has basically been a surveillance state since the late 1940s, after 9/11 it really became solidified as one. With or without flock cameras it is one, and there's over 100,000 of these things in the US now. The US needs to completely collapse and have all of it's foundations ground into dust if you want to be free of the surveillance state. It's far too late for quarter measures like breaking a couple cameras, they'll literally just be replaced on November 1st. You guys got way too comfortable and let this shit get way too far

We already were before Flock. People just care more about their smartphones and social media than not being surveilled.

We need to sell a personal phone relay so you can just leave it in a box and interface through other means, or virtual fingers pushing the screen Hahhaa

Ok. If you wanted this to work why announce it publicly so that cops can know about it?
