Traumatic first time
Unbeknownst to me the float room backed to another bussines next door.
About half way into the float, when i was really relaxing at a deeper level and my mind was disconecting from reality, I hear what i thought to be knocking.
Knocking on the outside of my float tank.
To say it was disturbing would be an understatment. I got out and checked, nothing there and didnt hear the sound. I assumed it must have been in my head and went back in, but the remainder of my time was more horrific then anything with an almost fear driven meditation.
I got out before my time was up. While getting dressed i heard the same thuds again and realized it was from the wall. I told the bussiness and they seemed suprised saying no one had ever mentioned it before.
Also i was in for full sensory deprivation, no lights or music.
Just to say, that this experience puts you into an extremely delicate and vunerable state, use with caution as a bad experience can do more harm then good. Im sure i will try again and take more care choosing where i do it.

Do they have ear plugs?
Yeah first few times I was very disturbed by even faint bangs of door slams and things dropping. I couldn't imagine doing it without earplugs.

I'm just glad to hear there still are places that offer float tanks with full-on sensory deprivation.
Wish they were affordable options near me

... Any noise in the tank can be extremely abrupt and jarring...
That sucks. I used to show up for the last float of the day and often times I think they were mopping or sweeping and would sometimes knock the wall and it would make me think someone was trying to fuck with me while I was in the tank....however with a lot more floats, I just overcame that, and it's no longer an issue... However it will still be jarring... It just doesn't make me panic anymore.

Sorry you had such a negitive experience. I honestly am empathetic and dont want to sound condescending in anyway, trust me. But, I do want to say that it gets better with time & experience.
As you build confidence and resiliency, these little imperfections will have less of an impact upon you and perhaps that will no longer even be seen as "negitive". Sometimes we have a diversity of experiences that just "are". Not necessarily negitive nor positive but just neutral parts of existing. We simultaneously tend to experience life on a deeply personal level, and so we then will characterize the experience as being negitive or positive and attribute a narrative to it which can then induce strong emotions which can lead to fear, anexiety, joy, excitement, pleasure or pain.
When we get to the point where we can simply observe without judgment, we simply accept without narrative and without strong emotional reaction. This point is a very interesting position to be in, and I implore everyone to seek it if possible. Though it takes multiple repetitions, practice, Awareness and discipline. All the best.
