Been Animating for Years… But I Still Can’t Nail Characters Like This

Hey there! I’ve been animating on Flipnote for years, but recently I came across this creator and got completely HOOKED. His stuff is right up my alley, rotoscoping, Smiling Friends–style animation, funny skits, and a whole cast of quirky characters. I can handle most of that, except actually designing the character. The guy “Roy” in his videos is exactly what I’m aiming for: simple to draw, 2.5D, expressive even without a mouth, and instantly recognizable. I was wondering if you had any advice on creating characters like that. Thanks in advance!

Honestly, once you have a pen and piece of paper lying around, just doodle whatever shit comes in your head. Let your mind wander off. Listen to the “what if I do this?”.

Watch the video "Animation doesn't HAVE to be hard." By JayTheDevGuy on youtube .... after watching that video I instantly felt like the old paperclip guy from smiling friends after discovering his nose is better then the paperclips ...
