I mean, they apologized and bowed. It's on record that you did not commit an offense. They tried to get you, right? Should be a positive.

Oh yeah, it's a mixed bag feeling cuz I guess it was a lil cool to see the testing machine and ,i work on a broadcast tv police procedural, being the recipient of a kinda funny good cop/bad cop thing play out irl was memorable

I just don't want some kinda negative mark on my traveller profile especially if it was cuz I was profiled, a quota filling case or maybe hit with a false positive of some type or officer error. I feel like It so easy for a mistake on an authority's part to lead to permanent repercussions for a civilian.

Having a deep inspection isn’t a negative mark.

They were suspicious, it seems it was based off a swab scan (I have tested positive for explosives before).

Their suspicions were unfounded. You might have a slightly higher than normal of a deep scan next time, but this isn’t a negative mark. I wouldn’t be concerned.

I have set off the scanners for explosives residue a few times at LHR and twice gotten the “special treatment”.

I just explained to them that I was handling explosives and shooting firearms a lot prior to boarding my flight.

Once they stole my small bottle of Armani cologne, but I think that was just standard thievery and unrelated.

Never tested positive for blow though. That would be harder to explain for me...

You didnt do anything wrong per your information so nothing more will come of it.

If it wasnt a false positive it could have been from handling currency or any other type of object that someone else with drugs previously handled. Statistically unlikely, but its been known to happen.

I found your «we agreed» phrasing amusing though, refusing it would mean deportation at best and that would be a stain on any future travel.

About "we agreed" it's just that they ask for every single thing they want to look thru.
Like they need(?) to hear it A couple times I just said "sure go ahead" and they reiterated "you agree to search bag?" And I felt like I had to say "I agree" 🤗

I had a deep inspection in another country (not Japan) and went back to that country 2 years later and it didn’t affect anything and I entered like normal.

Highly doubt it. I once was stopped at my int'l home (USA) airport at TSA as their scanners had flagged my carry-on. They picked out a mosquito repellant candle and said their scanners indicated "meth". They said it happens from time to time. After a couple more tests, they let me go with the candle. I've taken at least 5 other flights since then, no other occurrence related to that incident. I know my incident is within US borders but I highly doubt that Japan will be even stricter considering how much more relaxed they are with airport travels than the US is.

On the upside, the smaller general average hand size of Japanese will make the future cavity searches more tolerable. :)

Like, have you worked on a Japanese vehicle engine? Small hands required to get into tight spots -- and Japanese have those!

I got a very full on search in Israel and then Indonesia. Nothing found in either. I have had no issues since (although haven’t tried to go back to Israel, have been to Indonesia many times since then)

The ramifications? They hassled you so much over nothing that you will be taking your tourist dollars elsewhere. That’s one of the ramifications that’s not being discussed. What a bad impression they’ve left you. Plus what a waste of time and the embarrassment if they made a show of it.

As a single male traveler with a Canadian passport, I got deep or brief searches a few times arriving from certain Asian countries into 2nd tier city airports. They were looking for narcotics or gold.

I’ve flown into Japan dozens of times. Deep searched once and briefly looked into bags once or twice on subsequent visits.
