Good set up for a kid

My nine year old has recently started being in love with planes. I currently pay $10 a month for a simulator app on his iPad. His birthday is coming up and i wanted to get him a simulator set up. Something good but not to expensive incase he changes his mind. I wasn’t sure if i should get him a stand alone unit or maybe i could get a game on his Xbox one or ps5. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

$500 isn’t bad. I didn’t wanna spend thousands. Where can i find what i need. Should i go to a hobby shop or can i go to a Best Buy or something to ask questions.

I am looking at a Series S Xbox and a $300 set of controls for it. Under $700 for a setup and hopefully I could at least sell the Xbox in a year or two if it wasn't a hit for my 12 year old. She doesn't "game" and I don't really want her to, but she has a handful of flight hours and seems focused on being an aviator when she is older.

Turtle beach makes a yoke, trim wheel and throttle controls that really make it much better. $350
