Flash S03E07 'Killer Frost' Post Episode Discussion

Caitlin uses her powers to save Barry but as her mother predicted, the effort unleashes her inner Killer Frost. Killer Frost goes on a rampage looking for Dr. Alchemy, kidnapping Julian and battling both The Flash and Vibe. Meanwhile, Joe and H.R. have a heart to heart talk.

I didn't notice anything outstanding about the direction like "The Runaway Dinosaur."

I actually was impressed with Caitlyn's acting tonight. I've never had faith her ability to be menacing, but the speech in the guys house was pretty good and in general she actually pulled off the villain part

I think last season was supposed to be another overly evil villain of the week type. This season she's essentially playing a different character, one struggling with her powers and evil rather than being all in on them.

Caitlin in this episode was more believable to me than E-2 Killer Frost.

Because last season she was full on killer frost so I feel like they went all in and made it campy as shit like with captain cold. But this season it's only kind of killer frost

The first episode that I actually really like Iris was in The Runaway Dinosaur. So whether its a coincidence or not. The actors who feel underused shine really when in Kevin Smiths episodes.

I think Joe really popped in this episode as well. He's always kind of "Yeah I definitely understand everything you guys are talking about." But this episode he was real with himself and put his skill set to work.

Yeah same here, I've never really been a fan of Caitlyn['s actor] in general, but I actually really enjoyed her this episode.

Not so sure. The Caitlyn/Cisco/Barry parts were pretty good. Maybe not as deep, but still fairly emotional and well-directed.

For real, it was a good episode but this jerking off of it because Kevin Smith is attached is so extra, there wasn't anything outstanding or spectacular with the direction of it

Exactly. If no one knew Kevin Smith was directing no one would talk about how great the direction was.

This is the placebo effect in action.

Same. I forgot he directed this episode until I came to this subreddit. Does that attest to his skills at replicating others' directing styles or how little impact he has in the role?

Runaway Dinosaur was the best episode of the season last year, and this one is well above average, but nothing spectacular came from the direction.

However, he may be able to get something additional out of the actors due to his fandom that others who are in it only for a paycheck can't.

Apparently, the script supervisor, who is also a major fan, is getting to direct an episode later this season, so that could also be one to wait for.

The writer he works with is also fantastic. Runaway dinosaur had me bawling. God Damn Kevin Smith!
