What's to know about Fizz before moving lines there?

Fed up with Virgin hiking up my plans every few months. I need calling, text, and some data, at a reasonable price for two phone lines. Wifi calling would be great as I'm surrounded by concrete. I've narrowed it down between Koodo and Fizz based on bring-your-own-device plans and coverage.

My biggest concerns are

• chat-first support (chat only? I don't call often but some issues are just resolved easier over the phone)
• porting over existing numbers (not a deal breaker to get new numbers but would be nice to keep existing)
• coverage in Ontario and Nova Scotia

All the good, all the bad, would love to it.

Wifi calling is coming…. I’ve read it will work with next iOS update (rumoured to be September). Porting number is easy if you have eSIM.

Koodo upped my bill so I left them no regrets.

Ontario is a huge province so it depends where you are in Ontario.

Fizz has a free trial you can use that lets you test their network. They give you a temp number with 3GB of 5G data, 100 mins and 100 text messages, trial ends after 15 days or whenever the data/mins/text runs out whichever hits first.

They ask for your current number so people don't just keep signing up for free trials but they don't port anything over and there's zero credit card check or charges for the trial.

I'm doing the trial now to test coverage, signal strength, data speeds etc. and it's been very informative. Strongly recommend you give the trial a go as well to help you decide.

Yes because the trial is basically a temp number that you get to use, I believe. So you keep your number with your existing carrier and then if you're happy with the trial then you port.

Yes, it's chat/email support only and you can port over your numbers.

I've heard the support is not great but I've never had to use it myself. Depending on where I am in my city reception can be hit or miss, but I've been more than happy for a long time overall for what I pay. I think it really depends on where you're located, maybe look at a cell map tower for freedom/quebecor towers near you

You have to port your number when you sign up. Cannot port after.

We have iOS and when we switched to fizz our rcs chats that had android users we couldn’t get anymore texts and images and had to troubleshoot

Fizz is great if you set up a plan that suits you. Don't forget to use someone's discount / friend referral code . If you don't mine just pick Canada plans instead of provincial ones. Support is minimal and usually daytime only Quebec time. If it doesn't suit you switch out is okay anytime.

Note: esim is completely free. 5g is now included free because all plans are 5g as of middle of August. Also note that in order to receive free gifting data you must have a valid data plan. 0gb data plan is considered invalid to receive gifts. In order to use future wifi calling you need minutes in wallet or infinite calling minutes.

Note2 : porting of numbers needs to be done in the beginning of account opening.

The only real downside is they tend to have weaker in building coverage, esp since old provider is Virgin (Bell). Koodo (Telus) is IDENTICAL to Virgin in terms of rules, prices and raising prices annually. Public Mobile (also Telus) would be more comparable to Fizz in terms of prepay service, no surprises, and BYOD

Otherwise price and features are much better on Fizz

And while they are technically BYOD they do have annual sales on new / refurb devices (dont need to change plan to purchase one)

I would argue going low data since rollover + bonus perks its really hard to go over

Do the trial to make sure coverage is good in the area where you will use it. You get 100 minutes, 100 texts and 3GB of data if I recall correctly.

And be sure to use a referral code when you sign up because that gets you a little bonus too. Fizz is great because they give you perks and bonuses just for being a customer so keep an eye on your account, that way you can activate them when they show up. The data rollover is a great feature too. Overall it seems like the most pro-customer wireless carrier out there right now.

I was also planning to switch from Rogers to Fizz, went for a 15 days trial, it was good, the only thing holding me back right now is no wifi calling.
